"Planned a short getaway to hike Mount Mitchell and this place could not have been more perfectly located to the trailhead. The Lodge is newly built, and ground are impeccably well maintained. The staff was super helpful. They even came by to drop off a lighter so the firepit could be put to use. They have a common use area with a ktichen and grills that can be utilized which is an added bonus as I don’t recall reading about all they had available to make the stay above and beyond expectations....

"We just concluded a five night stay with four couples of high school roommates in our 70’s. The property was everything we expected and more. More than adequate parking for our four vehicles. Very clean interior and exterior. Numerous gathering areas inside and outside on the wraparound deck. Perfectly stocked kitchen. Spectacular mountain views. Will definitely recommend to friends and family."

"The layout of this property was my favorite part. We used it for a family get together of several adults and one teen so having private rooms and bathrooms was our priority. That worked out perfectly. We enjoyed the ping pong table and the ability to watch a movie downstairs. We thought there would be a little more of a mountain-top view from the photos, but perhaps tree growth changed that. The kitchen was large and easy to cook in and the laundry room came in handy. Two small disappointments were some of the bedding and the comfort of the twin mattresses. Two adults ended up sleeping in the twins room and while less comfortable mattresses might be ok for kids, it was not pleasant as an adult. Some of the top blankets on beds were not fresh and looked dingy. We washed one of them on the king bed. It looked and smelled better afterward. Some kitchen items were not as clean as they could have been as well. However, the larger mattresses were quite comfortable and there were ample towels for baths and hot tub. We do suggest a small reminder to guests about bears. We did have a visitor confiscate a small bag of granola from an open car door after just a few minutes of having brought groceries in the house. It was not upsetting but suggest a friendly reminder to guests. There is also a fairly pleasant sleeper sofa in the downstairs. Proximity to other towns was also very easy and convenient. The space is warmly decorated and cozy even for being so large in the main living room."

"Such a great house! It was the perfect meeting place for a cousins reunion. The setting was so peaceful and the house had everything we needed. I would highly recommend! We saw a momma bear and her two cubs several times during our visit. Our host provided us with the perfect getaway!"

"I have rented many places and I’m ranking this as one of the best rentals I have ever rented.1. Communication: Ben was extremely responsive and friendly.2. Location: The town of Old Fort has gone through a lot in the past few years, but that has not diminished its charm and resilience. The house sits on a beautiful creek and has a great view of the sunrise which we enjoyed from the screened in porch. The house is walking distance from downtown. The downtown has several breweries with great vibes and also has several coffee shops and art shops. The access to camp Grier and the Watershed mountain bike parks were the biggest draw for us. 3. Accumulations: Very clean with comfy beds, high quality towels, linens, pillows, blankets, ect. The kitchen was very well equipped, sharp knives (which is rare in my experience). There were numerous times we needed something and thought there was no way we would find it, and we looked in a drawer and would find it. 4. The basement is set up for bikes or gear with racks, pumps and bike stand to do basic work. This is very valuable to anyone who is looking to store camping gear, bikes or other items while they are away and there is a great smoker/charcoal grill wich we loved cooking on.We will be back."

"I had such a beautiful stay at Mary Ida’s! This beautiful tiny home was clean, comfy, and had absolutely everything I needed for a relaxing weekend. The hosts were amazing and very quick to respond to any questions I had.Waiting for me on the kitchen counter was a little goodie basket with fresh homemade banana nut bread and other yummy treats that I definitely enjoyed! The fridge was stocked with fresh local eggs, butter, half-and-half for my coffee, and a couple bottles of water. Coffee was provided too, and I absolutely loved sitting on the front porch in the mornings with my coffee and scrambled eggs.Even though my main reason for the trip was to attend the Bigfoot Festival right down the road in Marion, my favorite part of my stay ended up being exploring the local spots and making new friends. Old Fort is such a friendly little town, and Mary Ida’s truly felt like a home away from home.I can’t wait to plan my next trip back!"
