  • This is a great place to visit in the North of England. It’s like stepping back in time to visit a town, farm, colliery village and old hall and getting to experience what it was like to live in those places from about 1910 onwards. There are staff who take on the roles of various locals that really bring this place to life. This picture is from the town where you can explore a bank, shops, pub, dentists and lots of other things as well as ride in traditional vehicles of the time. Such a brilliant experience.

Had a lovely relaxing time with my girlfriend and her husband, room was so clean and had everything we needed, absolutely loved being able to log into Netflix on the tv which was a great size. We were checked in by a lovely young man who also served us our food, he was very attentive and even brought us extra sides for our burgers. Exceptional service from a lovely lady who served us breakfast and made sure we had fresh coffee immediately, she was also fantastic with all other customers. We will definitely be back soon, if not for another night away, certainly food and drinks.

Excellent stay, place is beautiful expect to pay bar prices for any crisp or drinks as it is located a stone throw from the pub but quite a walk from shops. Lovely, quiet escape, a stones throw from the city

Check in was straightforward enough at the bar of The Keelman itself, given the option to add breakfast on the glasshouse the morning after too. They then walked us the short distance to our room (in the lodge section). Nice clean room, clean towels and bed sheets etc. bathroom clean and tidy. Only slight niggle would be the dust on the light fitting (but that's me being picky). Had a good night's sleep, nothing to fault them on. Surroundings are great, nice big outdoor beer garden with plenty of seating and shade. Dog friendly with water facilities and tasty beer! There's a riverside walk through the park which if followed takes you to Hadrian's Wall ~1hr walk. We booked this over any city centre accommodation due to it being quieter and much better value even factoring in taxi fare to and from the city centre.

Weekend getaway

Great 3 night stay at the Keelman. Check in nice and easy, staff friendly and very helpful. Room was good, big enough for us, and had all we needed, bed comfortable, shower really good, clean and tidy. (Maybe could do with a fridge) the surroundings were very nice, a short walk to the Riverside park. Bar and restaurant were lovely, and nice outside sitting area. Food and beers excellent, especially the Prince Bishop, would definitely stay here again

atmospheric Keelman & Big Lamp Brewery

Lovely setting and excellent environment for exploring the walks and cycle paths along the banks of the Tyne. the Keelman has a vibrant atmosphere with lots of local families and other visitors. we have stayed here several times and will not hesitate to return in future.

Wunderbar

Die Lage war für uns als Hadrianswanderer ideal. Die Unterkunft ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen, war aber für uns völlig genügend. Das Pub ist wunderschön gelegen und bietet sehr gutes Essen an, das man bei schönem Wetter draussen geniessen kann. Das Angebot war reichhaltig zu vernünftigen Preisen. Schade war, dass man erst ab 8:00 frühstücken konnte mit sehr wässrigem, teurem Kaffee. Es übernachten sehr viele Hadrianswanderer, die sicher beizeiten loslaufen wollen.
