"When I walked in to the house I felt a sense of peace and even a reverence to it. This home is nearly 200 yrs old and the renovation and upkeep is wonderful, they were able to maintain the true essence of the home while updating electrical and plumbing. We were fortunate enough to be staying in the Smith room which added to the feeling of reverence even more. I later learned that the room had been used back before the temple was completed as an ordinance room. The owners and the caretakers of the home are kind, and engaging individuals. The breakfast was very good and the parlor/dining area was pretty and comfortable. I am so glad my wife chose this bed and breakfast 😊"

"Understanding this is a historic home with a more recent add-on. The location was great since we were in Nauvoo. The home was fine for our group size (three couples) but the kitchen table only had 4 chairs. The main bathroom was very large but the second batroom in the basement was hard to access due to the steep stair. The host responded quickly to questions."

"This place is full of quirky items. It was fun looking around at everything! There are plenty of books to read and some games to play. We even found some costumes to dress up as hobbits for a photo shoot! There is a microwave and a really fancy stove. There is a full size kitchen sink and a small prep sink area plus a dishwasher. There is also a washer and dryer. The house had a large fancy bathtub in one bathroom and a walk-in shower in the other bathroom. The toilets are bidets.The place is absolutely amazing!Didn't find a regular coffee maker. Did have the fancy type you add coffee grounds to a filter and pour boiling water over it. We did find all kinds of flavoring syrups for coffee. And some food spices as well.Driveway, parking area, and walkway to the house is rough gravel landscape rock. It's not easy to roll your luggage on it's wheels on the walkway or the grass, so pack a little lighter in your bags so you can carry them if need be. This house is not handicapped accessible for somebody in a wheelchair. Someone with a walker would encounter significant difficulty.A winery is located very close to the house.We went to Vickers geodes to hunt for geodes. We filled 6 five gallon buckets in 5 hours with a party of four people. Make sure to call ahead and make an appointment with Johnny. Bring a small pickaxe as you will be moving a lot of dirt.The neighbor cats like to visit but are not allowed in the house. They are extremely friendly and vocal."

"Historic Nauvoo. What a neat little town. Everyone was extremely friendly. The property is good value for the money. If you park on the Main Street, it’s easy to find. The alleyway from the front is level concrete and well lit. We parked in back as we were instructed. It was a little confusing at first, until I reread the instructions. The concrete alleyway from the back is uneven and not as well lit. But the town is a safe one, so security is already felt. The stairs to the upper apts are steep. Manageable, but if you make several trips loading and unloading, it takes effort. If you’re handicapped, you’re going to need someone to carry you up and down. Sadly this place isn’t for you. The 3 window A/C units are cold, but as an HVAC guy, I physically rinsed all 3 filters, and had to empty the dehumidifier reservoir every few hours as it’s a very humid town. Clean, although some fixtures could use a light dusting. Lots of instructions on the fridge, but nothing about leaving the A/C units and dehumidifier on or off? And nothing about having to empty the reservoir, as it will shut off until you empty it . Wife and I took the twin bedroom with 3 doors. A ceiling fan, but no cool air if you close the doors. Learned that lesson quickly. Brought a box fan and it helped pull A/C into the room. Brought a coffee maker, as it’s mostly Mormons. Not dry with Catholic history, but I brought alcohol also and there is a delightful winery in town."

"Our stay was just what we needed for a few days away. The view is fantastic, and the provided binoculars made it all the better. The home is clean and comfy. Although being in a more rural area, the outdoor spaces were a bit buggy and cobwebby. But that was okay for us, as we picked a time when it was 90 degrees every day, so we stayed indoors. There's lots to explore in the area, and we visited many of the small towns nearby and even drove down to Hannibal, Missouri, to see Mark Twain's home. And we went to Eldon, Iowa to see the place where Grant Wood painted American Gothic.If you want a quiet escape, this is the place for you."
