Families and friends traveling together will enjoy the space in this two-story, ocean-view house located in Naalehu in Hawaii Island's rustic Ka'u District. Truly live like a local in a plantation-style "home away from home" where sunshine and tropical scenery flow through ample windows. You’ll love that everyone can dine and snack on their own schedule thanks to the large open kitchen with breakfast bar, full refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker, microwave, double sink, utensils and dinnerware.

Gather for meals and interaction in the spacious living/dining area or on the ground floor deck with dining table and sitting area flowing onto a manicured lawn sprinkled with palm trees.

Then retreat to the upper level where a tile floor lanai that spans the entire side of the home unfolds to a beautiful ocean panorama. Plan your day while relaxing on loungers or drinking smoothies in comfy chairs. Three bedrooms offer direct lanai access, while the fourth doubles as an entertainment room with a daybed, flat screen, workstation and sofa.

Hale Kamaoa conveniences include WiFi, flat screens, DVD, ceiling fans, cool tile floors and wood flooring in 3 bedrooms. Sleeps 8 in 2 queen, 1 double and sofa bed.

The Ka'u District is home to some of Hawaii Island's most popular attractions, including Papakolea Green Sand Beach, Punaluu Black Sand Beach, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and ancient Hawaiian heiau (temple) at Ka Lea (South Point). As 1 of only 2 green sand beaches in the U.S., Papakolea rewards hikers with its green crystals (olivines) mixed with black (lava) and white (coral/shells). Pick up java at Ka'u Coffee Mill in Pahala, malasadas at Punaluu Bake Shop, and local produce at Naalehu Farmer's Market or Ocean View Swap Meet. Then wrap up another perfect day with a Hawaiian feast at your Naalehu vacation home!

Nice Location. House needs updating and cleaning
This house was in a good location. The house seemed like it hadn't been occupied in some time. It was musty smelling and in need of pest control for multiple insects including cockroaches, ants and maggots. Not really a fan of all the rules including quiet times. We are a respectful group and don't need vague directives on how to act appropriately. We decided to leave 2 days early.

Just what I needed.
We had a great stay. The house was simple but had everything we needed. Very quiet, I enjoyed reading on the upstairs deck. Gorgeous views and the grounds were very well taken care of. Hope to stay again!

Great location and size
The property was clean and had just the right space for everyone. The grounds were so fun with the horse, chickens and all of the trees. It sat off the road and was just outside of town so it was nice and quiet without a lot of people around. The deck space was great for coffee in the morning and family dinners as well as inside space. We were incredibly pleased with the stay.

Quite with lovely view
We had a wonderful time using this house as our home base. Some of the pictures did not represent the interior well. We loved the location and outdoor space, but the carpet leading upstairs was dirty and well worn. It would have been nice to have a real vacuum so we could keep things more clean while we were staying. The sleeping arrangements were not the best, especially the hide-a-bed softa. Even though some things were worn we still enjoyed our stay and loved the community of Naalehu Hawaii.

Family vacation
The house was at a very private location. Loved the rural feel with chickens and a horse. Would have liked to have had better beach chairs and BBQ. Other than that a very peaceful place to stay

Great place for a big group
This property was perfect for our party of 7. The rooms were comfy and quiet. There was plenty of space for everyone, even if each wanted to do his own thing. There is also a big yard with a great view. The area is very quiet, and the night sky is absolutely incredible. Stargazing in the yard at night was one of our favorite things to do. The kitchen is also well equipped, although we did have an ant problem while we were there. We found some bug spray, which did help alleviate the problem although we would still see some ants here and there. We just didn't leave any food on the counter and it wasn't a big problem. The animals in the area are lovely, and really made the place feel like home. We would stay here again without hesitation.

Very comfortable house, in the countryside - literally with rooster and horse right in front of your livingroom - Beautiful surroundings. Perfect to rest and to visit the South. Instructions very clear and communication with the rental agent straightforward.

Beautiful property and a great place to stay
Wonderful location to explore Volcano National park, Black Sands beach and waterfalls. Convenient location between Kona and Hilo. Great choices for coffee shops and local bakery. Property was very clean and spacious.

Beautiful & peaceful getaway
Spacious and quiet place to stay, perfect for our family of 6 travelers to spread out and enjoy the countryside. The grounds are beautiful and the wrap-around patio upstairs has a wonderful view. My husband said the bed was the most comfortable of the four different properties we stayed at during our 2-week trip to the big island & Maui. The location was perfect for our adventures to Green Sand beach, Black Sand beach, and Volcanoes National Park for eruption night viewing.

Repeaters
This is our 5th year at the Plantation House. We are planning on number 6 for next year. Close to Black Sand Beach, Green Sand Beavh, Valvano and Kahuku. We hike a great deal. A great place for just the two of us and/or family. Everyone love it.

Wonderful Stay!
Perfect stay for a family of 8. Couldn't ask for more. Met the owner and talked for a while. Super nice gentleman. Awesome property. We used it as a "base" to explore the volcano, black sand beach, and green sand beach. Would do it again in a heartbeat. We'll be back! (Thanks Rick!)

Convenient place to stay while visiting family in the area.
Spacious home and conveniently located off the highway. Nice yard for kids to run around. I gave a low rating because the there were some cleaning issues. Refrigerator had leftover food and food debris. A fee serving utensils had crusted food still on them. Knifes weren't clean and found randomly in drawers. There were a few utensil drawers and they weren't neatly organized. Microwave was dirty so I had to wipe it down before use. Upstairs bedroom had food on floor which had ants crawling over and around it. Found a partially dead centipede in living room floor.
