"The hotel is refurbished (previously called White House Hotel) so quite smart but fairly dark inside the rooms as the decor has quite a bit of black. The hotel has a good free car park and 13 double ensuite bedrooms with walk-in showers. The bathroom floor can get quite slippery if wet as the shower has an open side. Bedrooms are on the first and second floor, but there isn't a lift, so it is not suitable if mobility issues. Worth asking for 1st floor rather than 2nd if you can't manage more than 1 flight of stairs. Ver comfortable beds. Bedrooms quite warm though it was cool outside, but bedroom and bathroom windows open and there seems to be an a.c. unit in the wardrobe.
Tea and coffee facilities in the room. Also a coffee machine in the room but needs instructions.
Fruit juice, tea or coffee and a tasty gluten free cooked breakfast (nicely cooked bacon, beans, tomato, egg cooked to suit, optional black pudding and toast). If you're gluten free, there aren't any cereal or pastries and you can't have the sausages or hash browns unfortunately."
"Terrible experience on both Expedia and the hotel. I booked a room, did the pre-checking online after expedia sends me a messague. When I go to the hotel around 6.30 p.m. the guy at reception casually tells me that they cannot accommodate me because they had an issue with my room. That's it.
On top of that; the person at reception tells me as if it helps that they contacted Expedia at 5p.m. which then when I called Expedia hours later after doing my own arrangements was not True. Horrible communication on both parts.
No apologies, no solutions other than calling Expedia for nothing as they were not even aware of the situation. Then they have the audacity to call me at almost midnight after our call dropped 5 hours earlier."
"The historic hotel, and its location make a perfect stay in Shrewsbury. Easy access to the great towns pubs, restaurants and shops. The staff are helpful and your stay will be great.
My only consideration and negative comment would be the creaking ceilings. Ok it’s old and you expect that a bit. But where I was staying on the second floor - you really could hear quite a lot as the people above walked around. Ultimately this disturbed what was otherwise a faultless stay."
