About this property
AFFORDABLE Glorified Basecamp -"The Bird House"
We keep our prices low so that people can afford to stay in this beautiful place. If you are looking for an affordable "glamping" spot - this is it! The Bird House (BH) is a cute apartment above an art studio/workshop in the beautiful Paradise Valley - 30 minutes from the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park.
IMPORTANT - the guest house does NOT HAVE AN INDOOR SHOWER. It has 12 steps to access the living space. We do have a gorgeous outdoor shower. We are also only 8 minutes from Chico Hot Springs, we offer our guests Chico tokens (one per person/one time only) for the natural hot springs pool and shower, if our outdoor shower is not available due to weather.
The BH has a small kitchen area with a hotplate, three options for a coffee maker, a toaster, and a refrigerator, as well as a small BBQ grill outside. In the bathroom is a sink and a toilet.
The Bird House has an adorable main room, filled with original art, books, TV, and internet. There is a queen-sized bed with luxurious bedding, and also a single bed. (We also have a double blow-up mattress if needed.) The occupancy of the Birdhouse is 3-4 people.
The windows look directly out at beautiful Chico Peak, and just a little further south is Emigrant Peak. Both peaks are framed in the window directly across from the bed. It is located in a small, extremely quiet neighborhood with close proximity to Mill Creek and the Yellowstone River. We have an outside grill and picnic table for your use.
Right behind the BH is a large organic garden, and we are happy to share veggies and flowers with our guests when available and in season. There is available parking right at the entrance to the BH alongside the steps. Please don't block the driveway.
PLEASE NOTE THE APARTMENT IS UP A FLIGHT OF 12 STAIRS. It has solar lighting for night arrival. We live on the property, but our many guests over the years have assured us that it is a quiet, comfortable, private space.
It does take a certain kind of guest to appreciate this cozy apartment with its lack of an indoor shower. However, our guests seem to love the shower!
We are very close to several great places to eat: Chico Hot Springs (4stars), Sage Lodge, The Old Saloon, Follow Yer Nose BarBQ, Wildflour Bakery, The Outpost, and Yellowstone Valley Grill. You are also about 15 minutes from Livingston, MT (north) and 20 minutes from Gardiner, MT (south). We have plenty of music venues near us if you are looking for nightlife. Check out websites for Pine Creek, Chico, the Old Saloon, and Sage Lodge.
Who are we? Both of us are retired career Park Service employees. If you have pet(s), talk to us first. We love animals, but many people have allergies; there is a small additional cleaning fee of $10/night.
We sometimes offer river shuttles if we are available, so ask us about that as well.
If you add a guest or have more than 4 in your party, there will be an extra night charged. Please, no drugs, no smoking, no fighting, or loud nightlife. Our guests tell us that they have the most restful, quiet sleep at our place.
When you leave, we ask you to strip your beds, empty and take all garbage with you. The closest dumpster is south of us on East River Road at the Chico green boxes. If this is a problem, talk with us about a trip to the dumpsters. Sometimes you can throw it in the back of our truck.
*Note, Our place consists of 2 yellow (winter wheat) stucco structures with red metal roofs, and we are the 2nd place (right) on Cedar Lane. We are 16 CEDAR LANE. Arrival time is 4:00 pm. The Bird House will be open and ready for you. Please drive in with caution, as the two golden doodles that serve as greeters may be outside. The dogs love people, and so do the two resident mouse catchers. There are also deer around daily.

We loved our stay here! The birdhouse was adorable and cozy! The location was perfect for our travels to Yellowstone then to Oregon. Our host had excellent communication. We appreciated it. We were treated very well! The check in/out was smooth as well! I would highly recommend staying here.
A sweet, wonderful place to stay. It's a very cozy, quaint place out in the country with the most amazing views. The hosts are very kind and accommodating, and it's perfectly centered to all the big cities and sites in the area, especially Yellowstone.
Stayed here with the family, property had everything we needed and was in a great location for us between Bozeman airport and Yellowstone. Would definitely recommend and return.
The location has gorgeous views and Ren’s art and decor make it very lively. We loved the outdoor shower and made good use of the kitchenette. It has everything you could need!

Absolutely loved this sweet, cozy spot. The bed was comfy, the view was beautiful, and the outdoor shower was a highlight. Great place to lay my head after a day of hiking and concert-going.
Nice, quiet location for access to all things in the area. Cute and cozy little space with the basics needed for a night or two. We would have liked a regular coffee maker. We would stay again.

Great price! Everything we needed. Very nice host couple. Very knowledgeable of area and parks. Nice quiet location. No air conditioner so was a little hotter than I prefer due to hottest time of year, but they had fan with ice and it cooled down once the sun went down. Would stay again.
We had a great stay at the Birdhouse. Location was amazing and relaxing away from the crazy crowds . The place felt super homey and was way more comfortable than a regular hotel. I usually have a hard time sleeping away from home as we live jn the country . This place felt like home . The dog were a bonus as well opl
We had the best time staying on this property. The outdoor shower wasn’t bad at all! The views were AMAZING, cozying up with a cup of coffee or hot tea and watching the sunrise and set over the mountains was one of my favorite things. The beds were comfortable and it was so peaceful and quiet. Ren and Jim were very warm and hospitable. We will definitely go back!!
This was perfect for what we wanted. Amazing location. Great communication. Small which we knew and all we needed, as we were gone during the day. Stairs going up are slightly challenging which again was fine for us but good to know for people who have issues going upstairs. We 100% would stay again if we ever return to the area.
We absolutely loved our stay at this adorable loft! The hosts were the highlight—incredibly thoughtful and communicative. They reached out with genuine concern when our travel delays caused a hiccup, which was so appreciated. The property itself is gorgeous and felt even homier with the sweet cat and two dogs. We're only sorry our schedule was too tight to use the hot spring tokens or to swap park stories with our expert hosts, Yellowstone veterans! A perfect, memorable getaway for my partner and for me a much needed reprieve from park housing and my roomates We can't thank you enough!
Everything about the stay was wonderful, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that we arrived the day the Northern Lights could be seen due to a solar storm. There were few lights in the area, so we had a great view of the night sky and the lights around midnight. We also took advantage of the Chico Hotsprings tokens included with this stay, and it was well worth it! The only downside is there was no working shower due to a snow storm a few days before we arrived, and we were not made aware of this change until we tried to use the outdoor shower. Otherwise, it was a great stay, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful, quiet (pet-friendly) space to rent while exploring Yellowstone!
EVERYTHING is perfect for the easy going traveler.. this was my 2nd stay here for many reasons.. I LOVE THE OUTDOOR SHOWER! When I arrived last week they had had a freeze the night before and it caused a leak, Jim fixed it immediately! Between Jim and Ren, they are the perfect hosts..(along with the beautiful, sweet fur babies!) Perfect location for local fun at bars, restaurants, lodges and hot springs.I cant wait to go back to BEAUTIFUL MONTANA and stay at the Birds Nest!
We had a wonderful stay this past weekend at the bird house. It's nice and private, yet not to far from all the activities you would like to do in Montana.
