When I first reserved this apartment, there were no reviews, which made me think twice. Then I looked on Google Earth at the address and found an empty lot which freaked me out! But the google photo was out of date -- this is a brand new building, and a very nice one.
The design and finishes are modern and clean, exactly as shown in the photos. While cozy by American standards, my son and I felt we had plenty of space compared to a typical Japanese hotel room. We each had our own room for sleeping and room to relax in the main kitchen/living space. The kitchen is well appointed with attractive dishes and glassware, practical pots, and a decent refrigerator.
The main bath has a wonderful wooden tub as well as a shower, and we made use of both. There are two separate toilet rooms. I actually took photos of the wastebaskets, I liked them so much.
As to location, we walked to the main rail station a few times, and to the private Keisei line across the river. There are not many food establishments in the immediate area, but if you range 10 to 15 minutes in any direction, you will find something. You can spot the temples at Kiyomizu-dera across the river, and could easily walk to some of the sights in that direction. Fushimi Inari is a few short stops away via bus or train. Bird-watchers will appreciate the river!
The gentleman who met us upon arrival was very friendly, helpful, and thorough, and spoke very good English (our command of Japanese being close to non-existent).
My only caution is to keep expectations low with the use of the washing machine. The cycle is long, like 3+ hours, and though the instructions mention a "dry" mode, forget that. You will hang dry your clothes.
Last note: when I reserved, I failed to realize the price was listed in British Pounds Sterling, and I paid in US Dollars -- a significant difference. But no complaints; we felt we got good value for our money with all the extra space, pleasant surroundings, and good location. I would reserve here again.
