Could be 4 stars with a little effort and expense:
The building is actually well-designed. There is plenty of room in the bedrooms and the common rooms, and the bathrooms are reasonably sized. It was pretty clean except for significant mildew in the master shower. However, it needs a fair amount of maintenance, including painting, replacement of worn-out furniture, replacement of a failed GFI and loose electrical outlet, repair of a storm door that doesn't latch, and rust abatement. If these things were taken care of, it would be five stars based on the property itself. Without them, it is 4 stars max.
What knocked it down to two stars is that the place comes almost completely devoid of the odds and ends that you need to live in a house. All they provide is one roll of gas-station-quality toilet paper per bathroom, one plastic bag for each trashcan, a few rolls of budget paper towels, a couple of small, thin ancient dishtowels, 6 fifty-year-old splintered wooden beach chairs and two umbrellas, one of which is partially broken. What it doesn't have is hand soap for the sinks, dishwashing liquid, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, Kleenex, extra toilet paper, trash bags, and kitchen essentials such as salt and pepper.
I have stayed in many other expensive rentals and have never found a property so stripped down as this one. Most beach properties that I have stayed at supplied beach toys and boogie boards. This property could be four stars by spending a few hundred dollars on the abovementioned items.
