  • 9 The Downs is a light and airy ground floor apartment set within a beautiful early 1900's building with large garden. The garden boasts stunning views of the sea and the surrounding beautiful South Devon coastline including the majestic and ancient Thurlestone Rock, nearby Burgh Island (Agatha Christie's inspirational location for her novel 'Evil Under The Sun'), and the fabulous golden sands of Bantham Beach ever popular with families and surfers alike. 9 The Downs is the perfect peaceful spot to relax by the coast.

    The property is a newly modernised 2 bedroom ground floor flat in an extension to a building dating back to 1907 which sits on the high downs above Thurlestone village with commanding views of the sea and countryside.
    The flat has its own entrance, accessible via a key safe and consists of entrance hall, kitchen/sitting room, 2 bedrooms one a double and the other with a pair of adult bunks and bathroom with bath and shower.
    The flat is light and airy and has good quality furniture and carpets as well as a nice selection of art work on the walls.
    There is broadband and a tv plus dvd player, together with a good selection of dvds. There is central heating. There is a dishwasher and a washing machine in the well equipped kitchen.

    Thurlestone is a very pretty village by the sea in the popular South Hams area of South Devon. It is an ideal place for days out at the beach, walking holidays or for golfers. The Coastal Path is directly accessible from the flat. There are several dog-friendly beaches in Thurlestone which never get too crowded all of these are accessible by foot.

Stunning location with Bantham village and beach within walking distance, with a scenic walk. Great beach we've been coming to for17 years. Apartment clean, tidy and everything you need. Definitely recommend!

The apartment was very clean with comfortable beds, well laid out and comfortable seating in lounge. Bathroom was good sized with instant hot water and a good shower. The heating which we needed despite being mid June was great. The apartment also had good light. Sadly while we were there the sea mist obscured the lovely views and prevented us from walking around the coast. Visibility was less than 100 metres. One slightly unusual aspect of the apartment was a door marked "Private" between the 2 bedrooms. Unsurprisingly this was not mentioned or shown in the advert of the apartment. No one of course attempted to use it but conversation and noises from another apartment could be heard through the door which was a little disconcerting. Downsides, the TV is tiny (26") with no HD or playback facility. I appreciate that you do not take a holiday to watch TV but the weather was inclement and the World Cup was on! The fridge is also small, a self catering family of 4 would struggle with capacity. Finally on a brighter note The Village Inn served decent pub food and was welcoming with good service. PS If you bring bottled beer bring a bottle opener and an extra toilet roll would be useful for a family of 4.
