Very good overall experience renting this condo for spring break week 2022.
First off this is north Wailea and we only rent there instead of in a more "organic" part of Maui to get walking access to the beach and private pools for our young daughter. On both of these issues, this condo was perfect: the beach right outside was beautiful and not too crowded (if you walked on the shore less than 5'), and the private pools worked wonders for our daughter, so 5 stars based on that alone.
The complex:
- very well maintained at the price of a total "leaf-blower/pesticide" vibe, it feels like brutalized nature in beautiful Maui but we were expecting that and sadly that was exactly how it felt.
- not designed for active people: no paddle board or kayak racks, no place to rinse and dry wetsuits or park bicycles. It feels a bit like a retirement community, mostly older folks and families with young kids. On the plus side folks staying there are considerate and quiet.
The unit itself, 5E, is well located, but has some quirks:
- The communication with the rental agent was a times laggy but mostly adequate, although we would have loved to communicate by text instead of phone call (hello, it's 2022!). One annoying mishap from the property management: we were given the wrong code for the complex gates, and in that complex that's a huge problem, you can't go anywhere without that code... The other biggest issue we had was a really strange alarm went off one morning and agents couldn't come for hours. We had to troubleshoot that ourselves.. Did you know people use water leak alarms under their sinks? Useful I guess, but you need to let your guests know they are there, especially if the sink is leaky...
- The electronics, furnitures and interior feel dated. "Beautiful remodel" from the listing should not set high expectations.
- Overall well equipped with decent appliances but stingy on certain staples: no laundry pods, barely enough dishwashing pods and coffee filters, no condiments.
- The regular beach stuff you get with an hawaii rental was ok (towels, beach chairs) but sadly no sun umbrella and no beach toys!
- We did hear some loud construction noise nearby during the day a couple of times, coupled with lawn mowers and leaf blowers, this wasn't always a peaceful daytime experience. Good thing we were out of the condo most of the day. At night it was always super quiet.
