We were notified about 2:30 pm the day of the occupancy that the balcony was going to have some repairs performed. I envisioned having to deal with jackhammers, electric saws, compressors, and construction workers coming through our unit, ogling my wife ( a la Shelly Long in the film “The Money Pit”) and other nuisances.
The ad in the VRBO website mentioned enjoying fantastic views or having a coffee on the balcony. These were some of the reasons why we selected this unit.
The management company offered to cancel our reservation or find us another unit. I couldn’t cancel because I was exhausted from driving through a pouring rain on a very steep and windy interstate for 325 miles. And, it was a Friday afternoon and I didn’t want to try to find another place to stay due to my fatigue, the late afternoon and having a poor cellular connection in the Rocky Mountains.
The management company was able to offer me another unit (at a higher cost for a 2 bedroom unit). Since I was too exhausted to find another place to stay, I reluctantly accepted this 2 bedroom unit, even though there were only 2 of us.
I pointed out to the management company that there was poor coordination and planning between them, VRBO and the construction company. The proposed repair should have been disclosed in the VRBO listing or the listing should have removed until the repairs were completed. I realize that due to Covid related circumstances that “disconnects” may happen. However, part of a management company’s responsibilities, in my opinion, are to coordinate these scheduling issues with the affected parties.
Overall, except for the problems initially encountered, the 2 bedroom condo stay was quite pleasant, the facilities and location were excellent and I would stay there again.
