This hotel is our usual place to stay when we go to Kataragama with the whole family. It’s very welcoming and a happy place to stay for the night. Very clean and food is great.

Won't stay again unless quality is improved

Low quality breakfast & dinners , sad to see standard of this hotel is declining . Inexperienced management seems to be the issue . Have no clue of guests expectations .

This was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The room itself was dirty—stained bed sheets, no duvet - just a thin sheet, plugs falling off the walls with exposed wiring, clumps of dust and towels that were old and fraying at the edges. There wasn’t even a bottle of water in the room. The worst part? They gave us a room that was already occupied by another guest. Imagine walking into what you think is your room, only to find someone else already there. It was deeply embarrassing and unsettling, and yet there was no apology from the staff. To add to the frustration, when I asked for a spare room key as I was sharing a room with a family member, receptionist told me she’d already given one to the other guest and when I explained that I needed my own as I had a few plans on my own, she rolled her eyes before finally handing over a card—begrudgingly. The corridors were pitch black, with no lighting whatsoever, making it dangerous to walk through. Worse still, the only way to get to the first floor was via an open staircase. When it rained, the floor became slippery, and with no warning signs, it was a complete hazard. The entire experience felt unsafe, unprofessional, and deeply unpleasant. The standards of this hotel had gone downhill significantly.

Old and dirty hotel. They havent done anything in 20 years. Its almost like a ruin. Nice staff. But the hotel is not worth its price

we have stayed at Mandara Rosen a lot of time in the past but never had a bad experience like this time. We booked accommodation a few months back and requested a rollaway bed but it was not organised when we checked in. Sadly I had to ask 3 times to get the extra bed organised. Not to mention, staff has forgotten to put the pillow cases! We were so disappointed with the service and condition of the property. It used to be the best hotel in Katharagama but not anymore. Truly disappointed and not going to recommend this hotel for to anyone.

WE checked in on December 9th around 2 PM. We went to Katharagama to visit the Sacred Temple. We drove about 9 hours to get there. We wanted to Shower and change . NO hot water. I informed the front desk. They told me that they had a problem it will clear in about 20 minutes. It never did. I called again after an hour. waited till 5.30 PM. No hot water. Had a cold shower and went to the temple. No hot water that night. we checked out next day morning. I wanted them to discount my room. Manager offered me 3 water bottles. I was so upset I walked out.

Good hotel in great location in terms of proximity to the Katharagama Shrine. The floors in the room, bathroom and hallways get really slippery when wet - very dangerous. Also there are no convenient / functional charging points which is a real problem. Also I could not get the Wifi to work.
