We stayed for over 40 days. The house is very big, approximately 2,600 sq ft and the pictures are accurate. George and Ed are very nice and would bring these huge avocados from their farm and stopped by several times per week to empty the trash.
Make sure you understand that there is a daily fee for the AC. When we stayed it was $20 extra per day, which means the price you see & the total is not accurate until Host updates. Host capped AC until at 76F and it took 2 weeks of texts to get Host to let us lower the temp and it was capped at 72F (see more notes on AC below).
Watch for extra charges depending on number of people. Nightly price listed is only for 2 people, even though it’s a 3 bd/3ba house + sofa bed. Ask for reduction.
Due to some of the “needs improvement” & uncomfortable beds, linens, & lack of proper cooking gear, for this price with the extra fees for AC & extra fees for more than 2 people, I probably won’t book
Here are the good & the not so good:
Good:
Large common areas
Master bedrooms felt large with high ceilings & large closets with shelves
Clean upon arrive
Back deck area was large and patio furniture comfortable
Excellent wifi, even with 3+ people working
Hosts respected privacy
Refrigerator has lots of space, water & icemaker (although we replaced the water filter)
Except for extra AC charge, price reflects house status compared to similar size
Small splash pool was always nice & cold
Dishwasher quit working & they were responsive on repair
Needs improvement:
All liens need to be replaced, from the towels to the sheets
All beds need to be replaced, very soft memory form beds that are lumpy & starting to sag
Kitchen needs to be reoutfitted with new plates, pots/pans, etc.
Ceiling fans need to be replaced, very noisy & look like they are ready to fall down
Decorations & common area furniture are very dated, although the artwork is nice
No beach chairs, umbrella, cooler, or other beach gear, which is typically provided by other Big Island Hosts
No BBQ grill
The AC is not a very good unit & appears to be retrofitted to house. During the heat of the day, even with lower temp finally allowed, it was barely 5 degrees cooler inside and some days felt extremely hot in the house. The Host will tell you it’s a tropical environment & there is not much they can do. This is not accurate as we have stayed on the Big Island many times and have stayed in places where this was not such an issue.
