There are certainly more luxurious accommodations on the island but not many that could match the amazing site lines from this house. The value of the location, being up the hill, allows for viewing the foreground hillside, the water and the island of St. Kitts. Tropical rain or shine, there was always a visual show to enjoy watching the light change upon the land, sea and sky.
If you love animals and miss the ones you left behind, you will be comforted by the two donkeys, one horse, parrot and Scooter, the very dignified Scottie that spent time in the house and on the front porch. We enjoyed the quiet daily routine of walking the long driveway and petting the animals while watching the monkeys scamper about the yard. All very tranquil, low key and peaceful.
The house itself has it’s own charm with a relaxed, lived in look and feel. Everything is a bit rustic so do not expect modern surfaces and textiles. It is an open air house which allowed for both hummingbirds to visit up close and also mosquitoes. Bug spray is nessessary.
The owners, Barb and Sandy, could not have been kinder nor more helpful. They stay close by and were helpful whenever we needed information or a few funny local stories. This is something that you would not get at a typical resort. I fell ill during the stay and they did their best to help me.
We originally booked a car through Hertz but cancelled after learning about a local car rental source. In retrospect, we may have been better off sticking to that as we went through three different cars each having some sort of issue. Once you drive the roads on Nevis, you understand why the cars are so beat up. Something to consider.
The owners were excellent on getting us from the airport to the house. Our friends flew in later that week and arrived close to midnight. Sandy made sure that they were picked up and that a water taxi would still bring them that late at night.
After driving the first day, we made the wise choice to take a taxi for our dinner reservations which were all over the island. Just too dark and curvy roads plus there are goats, cows, donkeys and dogs on the road.
Nevis is a very special place that was low key, full of beauty and people who were kind and helpful. Hope this is helpful to you!
