What's nearby

  • Kanangra Boyd National Park is stunning! Not too far from the famous Jenolan Caves and the sweet little town of Oberon. The drive in is on an unmade road, but fine for 2 wheel drive cars too. We camped, for free, and thorough ally enjoyed hikes out to the plateau and spectacular views.

  • We spent yesterday arvo bush-bashing down to the Zig Zag Railway viaducts above Lithgow, NSW and looking around the place for a few hours.

In this shot you can see the No. 1 Viaduct on the Top Road track. A little further down is the larger No. 2 Viaduct. And on the Bottom Road (which is the train line near the bottom of this pic) is the No. 3 Viaduct.

Comprising rock cuttings, classical sandstone viaducts and tunnels, the Lithgow Zig Zag was, and remains to this day, a magnificent piece of engineering. Construction of this part of the rail system began in 1866 and was completed by the late 1890s. The line was decommissioned in 1910 with the construction of the Ten Tunnels deviation which is still in use today by state rail.

Back in the early 1970s, volunteers worked to bring the line back into operation as an iconic tourist railway which ran for decades, bringing with it tourism dollars to the wider Lithgow area.

In 2013, a huge bushfire swept through the area and destroyed a lot of the infrastructure and equipment used by the Zig Zag Railway. Since that day work has proceeded to slowly bring the tourist train line back into operation It is hoped it'll be up and running again in the next year or so.

Best farm stay

A group of about 17 of us stayed there for a weekend celebrating a birthday. The place is very nice, clean and well maintained. House is nice, warm and cosy. Enough room and kitchen cutlery etc for all of us. The farm and animals are amazing! The farm and area has enough things to do to keep everyone happy and occupied. We did a walk around the property, had fun with animals, enjoyed the evening outdoor around the fire. In summary, a wonderful memorable weekend for all of us. Hope to go back again soon. On top of that, Jacqui is a wonderful hostess! Great job with this amazing unique property!

Friends Gathering

The property was just as described. The kids had a ball. We had four families (8 adults, 8 children). Each couple had their own room which had an ensuite and the kids all bunked in the one room. There was plenty of room for everyone to come together or have their own space. Even though the road to the caves was closed we drive 30 minute to a walk and waterfall which the kids enjoyed the adventure. Jacqui was so quick to respond to any questions and we saw her each day feeding the animals.

Amazing location and animals. Great for large family groups as everyone has their own room and can get some space. Also great for kids. Jacqui is also amazing and very helpful.

Easter break

We had 3 families plus Nana for a family Easter weekend. Each couple had a room, Nana had a room and we put the boys in one room and all the girls together in the other. The cousins loved meeting all the animals (dogs, piglets, peacocks, chickens, geese, ducks, goats, camels, donkeys) hanging out in the spa and building up the nightly fire for toasting marshmallows. We explored Kanangra Walls & Falls and they swam even though it was freezing. The house was spacious and beds were comfortable for most. We could all sit for dinner but not all together but I understand that’s hard for 17 people. We did end up storing a few things in the small bar fridges in our rooms since we had so much food and the 2 main fridges weren't quite enough. It's a beautiful property with gorgeous views around the valley. Jacqui stopped in with 2 little bunnies and their puppy which the kids also loved. All the family really enjoyed the stay and we would recommend it for large groups.

Wonderful Family Holiday

Our family of 10, 8 adults and 2 children and a dog, had a fabulous 3 night winter stay on the farm. The large and cosy house had everything and more. To our surprise breakfast was also provided. Jacqui was a wonderful host who couldn’t be more welcoming. The animals, everything from alpaca to deer and sheep, are calm and friendly, with the children and adults loving feeding and patting them. The animals are visible from the house so even in the chill of the early morning and late afternoon they could be seen. Walking around the property late in the afternoon we saw numerous wallabies and birds and while there were many wombat holes, we didn’t manage to see any. We visited Jenolan Caves which was only 5 or so minutes away and the spectacular Kanangra Falls and lookout which was about 20 minutes. We couldn’t recommend this property highly enough.
