The Castle of Guimarães began with a monastery built by Mumadona Dias in the 10th century, before, therefore, the formation of Portugal. As the attacks of the Moors were frequent they decided to build a wall to protect the community and the monks that lived inside. It was this fort that gave origin to the Castle of Guimarães. Later, in the twelfth century, it was in this castle that Dom Afonso Henriques was born. Some years after he would become the first king of Portugal. With the lack of use the castle was degrading. Recently it was recovered and classified as National Monument. It is also considered World Heritage by UNESCO. A place full of history and that was cradle of Portugal. It is no wonder that in a piece of the original wall has the words "Here was born Portugal".

Clean, spacious hotel with a great outdoor pool on the roof. Staff very friendly and efficient. Nearby car park is 10 euros for 24 hours, which is the only parking option (there is only space for 4 cars at the hotel outside).

The property was beautiful and very well done from a design standpoint. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the free breakfast was great. 24 hour gym, nice indoor pool. The location is also good - very historic, quaint, and walkable to several dining and cafe options. Only negatives were that our refrigerator didnt work and the parking was very limited.

Great location and fantastic Pool

Great location in the historic city center, a short walk to all the major sites and restaurants. Hotel has only a few free spots for parking, but there is pod parking across the street. Reasonable at 10€ for 24 hours. Hotel bed was comfortable and as usual, the room was on the small side. The highlight was the roof top swimming pool that was really spectacular. Challenge was seating as it did get quite crowded. Nice buffet breakfast with a good selection of both hot and cold items. They use Nespresso so you can make a great coffee! We would definitely stay there again when we go back to Guimaraes.

Stylish hotel in acient city

Very stylish hotel partially built up from the facades of an old city house, an interesting piece of architecture. Very friendly and helpful personnel, excellent breakfast, swimming pool on the roof, heated pool, jacuzzi, and spa in the basement.

Lovely clean hotel

The hotel is lovely and the staff were always helpful but had issues with the cleaners for room they would come in leave dirty glasses and also take I glass I had brought with me and also leave a glass full of flat coke but take my half full bottle and kept taking my card out so all electric would go off meaning my insulin was kept at unregulated temperatures

The hotel was probably one of the best when opened. Now it has gone some years and the rooms have started to wear down. Golden pleating on things as bathrooms buttons etc have worn off making it look not so nice. Above my headboard there were lots of handprints, high all over the wall. This made me quite uncomfortable. I know a lot of people use hotels for various activities, but I don’t like to be shown so graphically what has been going on. Either the hotel needs better cleaning or a remodel because the freshness of it has worn off. If remodeled, please stop with the separate hot and cold faucets. They never kept the temperature and it was a constant waiting and juggling for water to not be burning hot or cold. Said that I did feel very welcomed and relax upon arrival. The hotel itself is beautiful with a lot of attention to detail(initially). One other thing that bugged me was the big mat in the common area that was crooked and no one seemed to notice. A little thing, that brought down the impression. Breakfast, I preordered vegan breakfast, even double checked with staff the day before it was all sorted. Come morning, and there is no vegan breakfast. Kitchen has not been informed. Had dry bread with only jam(there was milk in the butter)as my only option for spread. They did sauté some vegetables for me, but I would have preferred a standard breakfast. Breakfast staff didn’t speak English and communicated with everyone in Portuguese regardless of nationality.

Hôtel bien situé proche du centre historique à pieds. Pas parking à l hôtel, difficile de se garer dans la rue à proximité. Il y a un parking privé payant (10€/j) juste à côté de l hôtel et facile d accès. Piscine intérieure avec SPA et piscine extérieure mais eau fraîche pour début octobre. Bon accueil à l hôtel et chambre propre.

Hotel confortavel e bem localizado, comentário negativo fica para o SPA : é pequeno e tinha muito barulho com crianças brincando.
