The lighthouse on Gabo Island guards the eastern entrance to Bass Strait in #Australia. It is an active navigation lighthouse and weather station for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
It was built in 1853 from red granite sourced on the island. The wind blew down the windbreak wall, so buttresses were added for stability.
We went to the top for perfect 360 degree views on a blue sky day.
Access to the island is generally by boat and one can stay overnight!

"We loved our stay at this property, particularly the fabulous water views. Everything was spotless and the kitchen was one of the most well equipped we have encountered. The yard was very secure for our dog, who enjoyed walks on the nearby boardwalk and into the Mallacoota town centre."

"We stayed in a cabin. Simple accommodation, with lots of natural light, and was surrounded by trees and a native garden. Clean and neat inside. The beds were clean and comfortable. Best of all was the friendly and approachable service by the owners. I would definitely stay here again. "
