Escalante Casita with Expansive Views

The SaltBrush Casita is a 740 square-foot two-bedroom retreat tucked beneath cliffs less than a half mile from the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Completed in 2025, it provides comfort, breathtaking scenery, and solitude within a five-minute drive to Escalante town.

Blending with the native landscape, the Casita is a two-bedroom art-filled refuge built around a great room with soaring 18-foot ceiling. The plush sofa sleeper and comfortable armchairs are arranged around enormous windows framing the National Monument and the red cliffs of Boulder Mountain.

The full kitchen has everything you’ll need to prepare meals when not dining out. It has quartz counters, a dining table, fridge, and stainless steel appliances, including a range, microwave, and dishwasher. We also provide a Nespresso machine with coffee pods, tea kettle and tea, French press, toaster, cutlery, cooking utensils, stainless steel cookware, and barbecue tools. Spices, oils, vinegars, and sugar are in the cupboard. We even provide snacks and cold beverages. Most of the stoneware is made by Brett, the owner and an Escalante potter who has a studio on the property.

The separate main-floor bedroom has a cozy queen bed with soft Pima cotton sheets. Wake up to the view of the morning sun climbing the cliffs that rise directly behind the house. There are plenty of hooks to hang your clothes and gear.

The full bathroom is a great place to clean up after a day exploring. The bathroom has a tub, shower, Toto bidet, plush cotton towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, hair dryer, full-size washer and dryer, and laundry detergent.

A spiral staircase takes you to the open loft which overlooks the great room. The loft has a full-height ceiling and its own bank of huge windows, providing panoramic views of the Monument and our famous high-desert landscape. Sleep beneath Pima cotton sheets in the comfortable queen bed. There’s also a closet for your clothing and gear.

The shaded patio is nestled next to giant boulders at the base of the cliffs. Relax in the Adirondack chairs and enjoy the warmth of the hammered-steel propane fire pit while dinner cooks on the Weber grill.

The SaltBrush Casita has heat, air conditioning, WIFI, HD smart TV, ceiling fans, key pad for self check-in, and a 240 volt power outlet (NEMA 14-50R) for charging an electric vehicle. The sleeper sofa in the great room can accommodate a fifth guest. Outside the front door there is a Nest doorbell that can record external audio/video and be used to communicate.

Utah has the highest concentration of certified International Dark Sky Parks and Communities in the world. Whether you’re a stargazer or night-sky photographer, SaltBrush Casita is the ideal place to experience the starscape. During the day, explore our eight acres, which include a small slot canyon and an abundance of wild flowers and grasses, Utah Juniper, piñon, and other native flora.

Perfectly situated, the SaltBrush Casita is the ideal base for your adventure. With colors transitioning through yellows, oranges, and reds, the Escalante area has some of the most scenic, unique, and beautiful landscape in the world. Away from the huge crowds, its slot canyons and sandstone cliffs often feel undiscovered.

Hike from the front door or take a short walk to see ancestral puebloan structures. The Grand Staircase-Escalante Visitor Center is less than five miles away, as is the Petrified Forest State Park. We’re also close to scenic Highway 12, designated one of the country’s All American Roads. It stretches among Bryce Canyon National Park, Kodachrome Basin, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Escalante, Boulder, Dixie National Forest, and Capitol Reef National Park. If you’re visiting the Magnificent Five, Escalante is a great basecamp. And if you want a change from the sculpted desert landscape, drive or cycle from the Casita to the top of Boulder Mountain, which is just 13 miles away. You will be greeted by pine forests, cool air, and small lakes where you can birdwatch or fly fish.

While pets aren’t allowed, our jackrabbits and resident Kit Fox are welcome, provided they stay off the furniture.

Wilderness getaway

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this desert gem immensely. The accommodation was so comfortable and clean. Form meets function! A fully equipped kitchen allowed us to have our meals in and enjoy gorgeous views from expansive picture windows. We slept so well in the peace and quiet of the property (an amazing mattress definitely helped). Our host checked in on us throughout the stay to ensure that we had what we needed. The location is perfect for quiet walks, sunsets, stargazing, bird watching and hiking.Ten of ten!

Desert Solitude

We just left from a two day stay at this amazing home. It’s comfortable, brand new and beautifully done. There’s lots of art and natural wood, with fun touches like some of the owner’s hand-made pottery in the kitchen cupboards. There’s a full kitchen, which was great since a lot of the restaurants in Escalante hadn’t opened yet for the season. The bed is super comfortable and we woke up every morning to the sun lighting up the cliffs right behind the house. Beautiful. The south side of the house is almost all windows so the view from the living room is breathtaking all day. One night we used the grill and sat around the gas fire pit on the patio, which is right below the cliffs behind the house. The location is ideal. It’s so quiet but we were still only about five minutes from Escalante. The owner is kind and was quick to respond to the couple of questions we had. Two thumbs up!

immaculate with stunning views

This immaculate guest house boasts stunning views and complete serenity. From the beautiful finish work throughout, to the hand-thrown pottery mugs and bowls in the cupboards, to the creative photography on the walls, to the surprise find of an artistically hung tumbleweed, every detail of this space has been lovingly considered and executed. We loved how clean, cared for, and close to town it was, and took advantage of all its amenities, while thoroughly enjoying the rock hillside in the back yard, the quiet, and the house’s unique personality. This guest house reminds me of a high-end boutique hotel: well-designed, alluring, and a complete delight to spend time in.Check-in was seamless, and host communicated clearly and quickly. Awesome experience!
