"If you’re looking for somewhere quiet, this is not your place to stay. And also, there is nowhere to get anything to eat on the property."

"The property was fine, but the front desk staff never told us that parking was an additional $20/day + tax. He simply handed us the parking pass. (This was AFTER our room was not ready at the promised check in time of 4pm. We had to wait almost 2 hours to get into our room.) Nor was the parking fee outlined on our reservation confirmation email from Wxpedia nor the email from Marriott. When I spoke to the manager about it, her reply was, “It’s on our website and all the booking sites. I know because I manage them. It’s also written on the parking pass.” That all may be true but it’s not obvious, and requires the guest to seek it out. We would have selected an alternative parking option with no fee vs. paying the fee. This is unacceptable. As a longtime guest at many of their properties, I expect better from Marriott."

"We had a wonderful time here. The house was lovely with expansive river views in most of the rooms and an abundance of decks to enjoy the outdoors. Be aware that the house is on four levels so guests need to be prepared to navigate stairs. The grounds are beautiful and the vibe is very peaceful and oriented to nature. Just across the river are all of the historical sites and amenities within Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. We visited and enjoyed all three over the course of two separate days. With the ferry ride, plan on an hour to get to anything on the other side of the river but it's a peaceful and lovely crossing. The rest of our 9 day stay we relaxed on our side of the river. We had friends join us for the second half of our visit and the house easily accomodated everyone with a nice mix of privacy and group gathering spaces. Chippokes State Park is definitely worth a visit - great hiking along the river and interesting exhibits as the oldest working farm in the country. We tried two of the local restaurants (Surry Seafood Company and the Mexican restaurant) both were pleasant surprises - excellent fresh food well prepared). There is not much to do on the house side of the river but if you are looking for a peaceful place to relax, enjoy nature, connect with family or friends - it's a beautiful space I could highly recommend. "
