This New Hampshire town sandwiched between Keen and Brattleboro has a large lake and tall mountain that make it stand out.

Experience the idyllic New England town of Chesterfield in southwestern New Hampshire near the Connecticut River. The town combines gorgeous scenery with convenient proximity to the area’s commercial hubs. Chesterfield includes the villages of Spofford and West Chesterfield.

Spofford Lake is Chesterfield’s main attraction. Head to Ware’s Grove Public Beach for a day of fun. Relax on its sandy beach or swim in the lake. Use the concession stand, volleyball and basketball courts and playground when you’re not swimming. The lake’s other beach, North Shore Beach, is open to town residents only.

The lake is also popular among boaters. Put your watercraft into the water at the public boat launch. Travel to Pierce Island, a state park at the center of Spofford Lake. Walk around the wild island or jump off its famous rope swing.

Delight in the striking natural beauty of Chesterfield Gorge Natural Area. A network of short trails follow Wilde Brook as it snakes through the gorge.

As the largest state park in New Hampshire, the vast wilderness of Pisgah State Park is inviting for any outdoorsman. Cast your fishing line into one of its seven ponds or go bird watching in its numerous wetlands. Six trailheads give you a variety of hiking, mountain biking and snowmobiling options.

Enjoy views for miles at Wantastiquet Mountain State Forest. Hike to the mountain’s summit or nearby Miner’s Ledge for spectacular vistas across the Connecticut River Valley and Vermont’s mountains.

See the historic Asbury United Methodist Church, one of Chesterfield’s most iconic structures. Since it was built in 1844, this white wooden church has served as a spiritual center for the town.

With just over 3,500 permanent residents, Chesterfield isn’t a large metropolis. However, it has a smattering of dining, shopping and accommodations options. "The Lake view and the sound of the loons every day was beautiful! we saw and heard Eagles every day and had a visit from a black bear and a red fox. The walk down to the lake was tranquil and beautiful, but I would not recommend it for people that have issues walking up or down steep grades."
