LAKE BUMMIERA or BROWN LAKE is 2 Km door to door; an easy 5 min drive or a beautiful 20 minute bush walk arriving at the stunning fresh water Tea Tree lake. It is a truly special and spiritual place and is a must do experience. A swim will relax your mind and body whilst the Tea Tree leaves your skin smooth as a baby's bottom.

MAIN BEACH is less than 10 minutes' (pass just 3 houses then bushland) drive with 32km of stunning white sandy beach which is great for 4WDing (you can drive the full length of the beach if you purchase a permit for your vehicle), swimming, surfing, fishing, jet skiing and long walks etc.

DUNWICH TOWNSHIP is less than 3 minutes' drive and features a fantastic historical museum which is well worth exploring. Learn all about Straddie's diverse and interesting history including Quandamooka indigenous culture, ship wrecks, Straddie's leper colony, benevolent asylum, whaling station and WW II bomber and submarine watch post. Another interesting place is the University of Queensland's Moreton Bay Research Station (MBRS) which conducts world class marine and environmental research.

Dunwich has all the amenities you will need during your stay including a supermarket, pharmacy, butcher, bakery, post office, newsagent, Quandamooka art gallery, cafes and take away eateries. The Dunwich foreshore has some beautiful calm shallow water beaches (eg. Adams Beach which is ideal for swims with small children) and beautiful bay walks (eg Polka Point).

NSI GOLF COURSE is less than 5 mins drive or a pleasant walk away. It features an 18 hole sand golf course with the most relaxed feel and is family friendly (also has free putt putt golf), affordable and teeming with wildlife such as kangaroos on the greens plus the rare and magnificent glossy black cockatoo's.

POINT LOOKOUT is a 15-20 minute drive and features great patrolled surf beaches the spectacular Gorge Walk and some nice cafes. A Gelato from the Point Lookout Gelato Bar whilst taking in the stunningly rugged coast and watching passing animals (eg. whales, dolphins, sharks, turtles and rays) is a must do whilst on Straddie!

There is plenty more to experience whilst on Straddie, far too much to mention here. There are some great websites with further Straddie info if you search including things to do, getting here etc. Once guests book on Air BnB we send a confirmation message on Air BnB's message system, which has links to great Straddie Info resources.

Best to have your own vehicle to get around on Straddie as the island is large and key locations are dispersed. Also please note the house is at the top of a steep hill with no public transport although you can hire taxi's Strad Easy mini bus or hire scooters on Straddie to get around however all are rather costly options, hence we recommend bringing enough vehicles to transport your group around together. Book ferries ahead of time. Ferries run during the day every hour and fares range from $55/way to $95/way, shop around (time wise) to get the best deal (however note check in is from 2pm). See Stradbroke Ferries website. If you don't have your own car, there is a bus service (however it is a fair walk from the house up a hill) or there is a taxi, a shuttle bus, scooters and car hire available, talk to us for further info.

You can hire vehicles on Straddie however needs to be organised in advance. Betta Car Rental in Cleveland hire at good rates and allow you to bring vehicles to Straddie (many hire companies do not allow vehicles on the barge to Straddie). Betta Car Rental can even pick you up from the airport or other arrange Brisbane locations when renting one of their cars for more than 3 days.

From Dunwich there are regular affordable buses to Point Lookout and Amity (day time only). There is also a maxi-taxi cab service on the Island however is is expensive.

The property has spectacular views & is easily accessible for a very elderly parent/grandparent. The kitchen was basic with a broken crisper which may not bother some folks but I like cooking with heaps of fresh vegetables, so it was annoying. Other than that a very comfort place to stay.

A group of 3 couples. Plenty of room. Huge backyard with firepit and amazing views. Easily accessible to everything on the island but the position of the house, and size of the block, made it feel like we had the island to ourselves.

Our second visit to this residence...and will be rebooking for a third.. It is our yearly get away place with spectacular sunsets seen from a great outdoor area Everything and more you could possible need for a holiday on Straddie. This house is the perfect place to base yourself to experience the absolute beauty of Stradbroke with the most stunning view from your own back yard! Amazing spot and we were greeted every morning by a kookaburra and watched kangaroos going about their business as the sun set over the bay. The house was well equipped with all you could possibly need and more.

Magnificent views. The house has everything you could need. The outdoor area was amazing. Kate, the host, was wonderful to deal with. The ONLY thing I found unusual was having to book and pay if you need a blanket. I think that the extra charge for a blanket should be covered in the cost not an additional cost

The house had everything we needed & the view was spectacular. What was very disappointing was that the veranda roof had holes in it and leaked onto the patio furniture. As there was a lot of rain during our stay we were on the veranda and under the leaking roof.

We had a fantastic time. The view is better than any picture. Space for everyone to relax. Ad pretty close to accurate, beds one less made up then then advertised, but enough made up for number of people. We were happy to share. Definitely the best holiday house we have stayed in and although we are "campers" we have stayed in a lot of different houses both here and overseas. Everything was perfect for our needs. Comfortable house and comfy beds. Great outdoors area with the fire place the final touch. As campers a fire and marshmallows are a must.
