「A Beautiful Stay in the Heart of Cartmel
We had such a wonderful stay at the Cartmel Old Grammar Hotel. From the moment we arrived, the staff couldn’t have been more friendly, welcoming, and genuinely lovely — they made us feel completely at home.
The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and immaculately finished, with thoughtful touches throughout. With some really lovely communal spaces to get to know other guests and not feel tucked away in your room all day. It strikes the perfect balance...
「Great room, not much of a view but very quiet and comfortable. The shower was a bit of a letdown as it had no power but had a nice bath. Food was excellent.」
「The Royal is a great hotel situated in the quaint village of Heysham.
We loved our stay. Lots of nice walks and history. The hotel has a very relaxed and chilled atmosphere.
The food is excellent and all staff are friendly and display excellent communication and customer service skills.
Everwhere is spotlessly clean. Free parking is an added bonus.
We will be returning soon and I will recommend the Royal to my friends and family.」
「The proprietor was very welcoming, the room was clean and tidy. There was also tea, coffee, biscuits and water available in the room. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. They do not do breakfast but the proprietor recommended places where we could obtain an evening meal with a pint of real ale and also some breakfast the following morning. Would definitely stay there again. 」

He told us of the local Chinese just up the road and said please feel free to bring it back to our room to eat, which we did.
Excellent Chinese takeaway.
We slept like logs and woke to have full breakfast that Jonathan cooked which...

I eventually arrived at a building signposted as the ‘equestrian centre’ so I drove a bit further and ended up driving around some lane in a woods (surrounded by curious deer and badgers!). I rang the owner again and...
