Really enjoyed my stay at the lodge , large wood burner so the place was warm n cosy , the beds were comfy and the lodge has been beautifully restored .There’s a coffee shop about a five minute walk from the lodge With great coffee and tasty food. Will definitely be back
We had a very pleasant overnight in Athol, and even had a magical snowy morning. Bedrooms were comfortable, kitchen missing a few things like oven trays and some other bits and pieces, and oven was a big older etc. but overall comfortable with very peaceful surrounds.
Mataura Lodge is such a great place to stay as it’s out of the hustle of Queenstown but only a short 40 minute drive away! This quirky and beautifully decorated place was comfortable and a great place to stay if you had a family or couples.
Our only downfall was that the lodge needs a big ‘spring clean’ to make it a more pleasurable stay. The windows were very dirty inside and out and lots of cobwebs everywhere.

Quaint little place, beds are comfy and lots of blankets. Warning the handle to fire gets hot and will burn your hand. We were guttered it was a spa bath and not a hot tub.
We had a great night - the bedrooms and bathrooms are amazing! The kitchen had everything we needed and the local shop cooked us pizzas. Such a unique house - thank you!
Awesome property and great communication with owner. Beautiful inside and great beds and also woodburning fireplace. Not much in the small town so bring food since no stores around. We had someone else come and say they booked the place for the same night- not sure if overbooked but lucky we got there first.

A return visit to this charming and well presented lodge. On arrival the fire was lit, and once the afternoon sun had disappeared from the verandah, we enjoyed a cozy evening inside, with there being plenty of space for 6 adults to gather. Highly recommend a stay here.
Loved it, felt really looked after, everything is so beautiful with lots of treasures to find that fit in well with the charactor of the place. The host made sure I had recieved the information I needed to stay, felt so welcomed.
