About this property
Swallow Cottage is a coverted barn
Swallow Cottage has been created through the tasteful conversion of one of the outbuildings at Dove Mount Farm, right on the edge of the peak district, which offers quality, compact, comfortable accommodation, adjacent to a country lane. The cottage is beamed and has superb views across Dovedale from the first floor. It is situated on the outskirts of the village of Thorpe in 25 acres of organic farmland on the edge of the Peak Park, only 150 metres from the Tissington Trail and a myriad of bridleways and footpaths. Ashbourne is 2 miles away and Carsington Water with its nature trail is 4 miles away. Buxton, Haddon Hall, Chatsworth House and Alton Towers are all within 16 miles. Golf nearby. Shop 2 miles, PO ¾ mile, pub 1 mile.

In short, beautiful friendly host, beautiful town, beautifull people. Enjoyed tge stay very much. I would like to say a big thank you on behalf of my friends as well. They said everything was fabulous.
Spent a great week in this property which was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed. Jackie was very helpful and replied quickly to messages. Would definitely stay here again as the location is so peaceful and there is lots left for us to see and do in the surrounding area.

We had a lovely stay at swallow cottage. We're a family of 2 adults and 3 children and used the cottage as a base for our trip to Alton towers. The property was about 15 minutes drive to the theme park. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. There is a lovely garden area also. Thanks for a great stay.
We had a wonderful week staying in the cottage. The location is perfect - Thorpe Cloud and Dove Dale, Ilam and Thor’s Cave/Manifold valley were highlights. The Bentley Brook Inn across the valley is worth a visit and a nice walk across the fields and Tissington Trail. The cottage was very comfortable and had everything we needed, and Jackie made us extremely welcome. Would definitely recommend.
We had a great short break. The cottage had everything we needed. Jackie was very friendly and gave us some tips on places to go and things to do. We enjoyed a walk in Dovedale, a day at Alton Towers and lots of meals in country pubs nearby. We loved the wine and chocolate to welcome us too. Thank you
Judith
The location of this barn is so easy. Very short drive into Asbourne and surrounding villages and towns. But walk out your door and the Tissington Trail is across the field and you are in the middle of beautiful countryside. The barn is clean and had everything we needed for our stay. This was our 2nd visit and we would certainly stay again.
Great location with beautiful views of the countryside. Fantastic pub just down the street aways. The place is spacious. There are no laundry facilities with this cottage. The beds are slightly uncomfortable, and one of the showers was not working very well.
We were due to stay during October half term when our one year old suddenly fell ill and had to be hospitalized. Jackie was absolutely wonderful, both in communicating with us during what was a stressful time and also in understanding our last minute need to cancel. She also very graciously allowed us to re-book for a different date and we are very much looking forward to staying in February this year.

Country side was lovly
If you like upside down living that's a start I found the decor and furniture in need of a tidy up the windows wouldn't stay open so had to be wedged open also the barbecue was all rusty I think this accommodation needs an overhaul oh and dont expect a good internet connection, to sume up would I stay here again I'm sorry to say NO .
Swallow cottage was perfect for our stay for a wedding at Tissington Hall. Lovely and close to both Tissington and Ashbourne. Jackie was very welcoming and helpful on our arrival and the cottage had everything we required for our two night stay.
Excellent place for family holiday and not far from local attractions such as Alton towers and walking places although we did not have time to walk as we spent most of the times in Alton towers. Nice kitchen with all white goods available except waching machine. 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms including 1 ensuite. Very nice spacious garden outside with BBQ facility with plenty of chairs and table along with small swing. Landlord is very nice and we had a very warm welcome.
The only minor thing is mattresses upstairs are not very comfortable and also struggled to find the place using post code.
Jackie, our host, was very welcoming and helpful. The cottage was comfortable , well equipped and ideally placed for exploring the locality. We much appreciated the wine and chocolate which helped us to relax after an arduous journey in the heat of summer.
At the doorstep to the Peak District, Swallow cottage offers an amazing place for a family visit to the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak district. Our host Jackie was so friendly and accommodating.. She provided useful information and tips on making the most of our visit. Fantastic time at a great place.
Swallow cottage is in a perfect
Location to access Carsington Water for water sports, Thorpe Cloud for a spectacular 360 degree view of the Dales and Dovedale for stroll and a paddle. The cottage has a lovely garden for relaxing in and lovely Hosts
Communication with Jackie prior to our visit was very good, we arrived a little early and there was no problem checking in, the welcome chocolate and wine was a pleasant surprise.
The cottage was really well equipped, plenty of hot water, linen and towels.
Jackie gave us some great recommendations on the local area.
We traveled as a family of 5 with 2 teenagers, as such they were not impressed with the Wi-Fi however for the time we were in the cottage it was sufficient for our needs.
A really lovely place to stay and we would have liked to have stayed a little longer to see the surrounding area and not just the theme park.
The drive to Alton Towers was only 20 minutes away.
Nice little cottage with a rustic feel in a great position for exploring the Peak District. It sleeps 6 and was fine for our party of 4 adults, a 3 year old and a baby, but the living areas might be a bit cramped for 6 adults. The kitchen and sitting room are on the first floor with the stairs opening directly into the kitchen. The first floor is light and has beautiful views over the surrounding countryside from the windows of the living area and the upstairs bedroom. The other two bedrooms and the bath- and shower- rooms are on the ground floor.
The furniture and appliances could perhaps do with being updated (we cooked and ate in most of the time and found the oven particularly frustrating as it took so long to reach the right temperature). However, on the plus side, everything we needed was there and there was plenty of hot water.
Outside there is a pleasant grassy area shared with the adjoining cottages, although this is only separated from the lane by a low wall and no gate. There isn't much traffic along the lane but such cars as do use it often came by quite fast. The cottage is within walking distance of the Tissington Trail and is close to Ashbourne and Dovedale and many other scenic spots.
The host Jackie is very welcoming and helpful.
We had a very enjoyable stay.
Lovely little place, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds. Lovely host, nice welcoming touch of wine & chocolate.
Perfect location for our 2 day trip to Alton Towers.
We had a lovely stay. The cottage is well placed for accessing the dales and Ashbourne is a quaint market town. It was useful to get the advice on the alternative drive as it cut out a particularly nasty corner. We would be happy to stay again
Jackie, the owner was very helpful. A few bits of the property could do with upgrading or updating but this didn’t have a great impact on our 2 night stay
Good barn conversion in the beautiful Peak district - within walking distance of Tissington Trail and Ashbourne. Comfortable accommodation and warm welcome from hosts. Disappointed with no washing machine and negligible Wi-Fi.
