The owner met us at the port after we arrived by boat. He walked us through town and up the many stairs to our hotel telling us about its rich history. He was super kind and accommodating! The view and outdoor terrace were breathtaking! My favorite place to stay in Amalfi so far 🇮🇹❤️

Wonderful stay! The owner Gianfranco is a very hospitable and pleasant person, he did everything to ensure that we had a pleasant stay. He provided us with a guide and we were able to easily get to our destination. The room that we rented was quite large, clean and with a very interesting design. The view from the terrace is breathtaking! We want to come back here, and of course we will highly recommend this amazing place to everyone!

Our room at Casa Mao was beautiful and extremely clean! Great views just outside of the building and terrace that we unfortunately didn’t check out. The only con is the amount of stairs to get to the building, but after walking them you deserve the pizza you’ll be eating!

Loved our time here!

Love our time here at Casa Mao. Spacious & very clean room in the perfect location in Amalfi. The view from the Terrace is one of the most beautiful views we have ever seen, especially at sunset. Loved the history of the place & the decor/meaning behind it all. Keep in mind, it is A LOT of steps to get to this property. So pack light and be prepared. Totally worth it though!

Casa Mao is a little gem tucked into the rabbit warren of side streets in Amalfi. Gianfranco, the charming owner/manager, met us at the ferry terminal and guided us to the location, pointing out landmarks along the way so we could find our way back by ourselves. Very helpful!! Our room was amazing, a two level suite with loft bedroom and a huge terrace overlooking Amalfi and the ocean. Perfect spot for an aperativo while the church bells rang! Very quiet at night and gorgeous sunrises from the terrace. A wonderful stay, highly recommend it!

Gianfranco was an amazing host, and the views from the property were out of this world. Although there are a lot of stairs you have to take to get to the property. It was stated breakfast was included but it was just a coffee and some cakes. The view from the terrace made up for it.

Lovely property hidden away but close to everything. Short walk from bus stop or ferry. The video sent on how to get to Casa Mao was extremely helpful as sometime it is hard to find any location in Amalfi, especially if you have never been here before. Our host Gianfranco was extremely helpful and informative. Our room was clean and comfortable. Sitting on the terrace in the evening with a breathtaking view overlooking the city was wonderful way to end the day and breakfast there was a beautiful way to start it. Highly recommend a stay here.

Gianfranco, the owner/caretaker of the property was highly responsive and accommodating with good local recommendations and personal connections around town to help get us into beach clubs/restaurants that online said were at capacity. He met us at the ferry and walked us to the location, which is a little tricky to find and up many stairs. The view from the roof was very pretty. The room was clean, comfortable and larger than most.

Great stay with a very welcoming host (Gianfranco). He personally came down to the ferry docks to help guide us to the hotel as well as he helped carry my luggage. The location is very beautiful, with a terrasse that overlooks Amalfi - great to take in the sights in the morning with some dolci from Pansa! Gianfranco helped us with the reservation for a restaurant as well. It was great to learn about the host's grandfather as well, who was a sculptor in Amalfi, whose sculptures you can see around town and in Atrani as well. Note that you should be reasonably fit to go up the stairs leading to Casa Mao, as it is in one of the higher locations in Amalfi.

I would not recommend Casa Mao due to the 160 step narrow climb to this property. Someone could easily experience a medical episode. Gianfranco suggests using the porter service but he should be providing this 80 euro for two suitcase service complimentary to his guests. Consider staying in the Amalfi town centro or better value in Maiori with only a 5 euro 10 minute ferry ride to Amalfi. Casa Mao advertises as bed and breakfast but doesnt serve breakfast while surrounding properties do. This property seems more interested in profit instead of quality guest service. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable but poor location and below average service will see fewer guests stay here.

Casa Mao was a big disappointment. The hotel is far up the mountain, requiring around 140 steep steps to reach — not clearly mentioned when booking. We had to pay €30 each way for a luggage handler, and on departure, the receptionist sent our bags down early without telling us there’d be an extra €20 charge. In total, we spent €80 extra just for luggage. Service was unwelcoming. No free water (every other hotel we stayed at provided some), and they charge €1.50 per bottle. On check-out day, staff banged on our door at 8:30 a.m. and again at 9:50, rushing us even though check-out is 10 a.m. The power shuts off when you leave the room, including the fridge, and you’re greeted with a long list of rules at check-in, which sets an unpleasant tone. Between the hidden access issues, extra costs, and rude service, Casa Mao was not worth it. Choose a hotel closer to the port instead.
