Take a guided tour across the picturesque lake in this stunning region that is home to countless cultural treats and mountainous terrain.

Yuchi is a small township in Taiwan’s Nantou County famous for the Sun Moon Lake. It is a scenic area of woodland and misty green mountains surrounding the large body of water. See the temples, museums and an extraordinary amusement park as you learn about the culture of modern Taiwan and indigenous Chinese groups.

Visit the Sun Moon Lake, one of the highlights of Taiwan due to its extraordinary mountain backdrop. Take a 2-hour boat tour across the lake to find out about its history and the treasures hidden along its hiking paths. Encounter the Wen Wu Chao temple on the northern shore of the lake. Climb to its peak to capture scenic photos.

Nearby, find the Shueishe Pier, with its visitors center and museum packed with works of art telling the story of the lake. Various exhibits teach you about agriculture in the region.

Visit the Formosa Aboriginal Culture Village for an amusement park providing information about the region’s indigenous customs. Look for the Ci-en Pagoda toward the Sha Ba Lan Mountain. Learn about its complicated construction, which involved shipping materials across the lake and up the mountain. It has become a towering icon of Yuchi, standing at a height of 150 feet (46 meters).

See majestic creatures roaming the fields of Peacock Park, near the Sun Moon Lake. The males display their colorful tail feathers in the spring and summer months. Listen to the intriguing calls of this exceptional bird.

The town is split into many tiny villages with agricultural economies. Enjoy the pleasant temperature year-round, although a rainy season takes place from April through September.

Fly into Taichung Airport, west of Nantou County, or Hualien Airport on the opposite coast. From either of these international transportation hubs, take a train, bus or rent a car for the long drive into the center of the island.

A trip to Yuchi is an embrace of nature and a voyage into the heart of Taiwanese culture.
