The Ava apartments are ideally located for walking exploration around Reykjavik. We had a short challenge getting the access code to work and arrived before the cleaner was finished but it wasn’t a long wait. The street noise can be heard but just being in Reykjavik was such a treat.

Reykjavík Residence Apartment Hotel is one of those rare places that manages to feel both impeccably organized and completely unpretentious—a combination about as common as a sunny week in Iceland. From the outside, it looks like a collection of handsome historic buildings. Inside, it reveals itself to be a masterclass in Scandinavian practicality. There is space to spread out, a kitchen to prepare breakfast, and enough thoughtful touches to make you suspect that someone involved in the design process had actually traveled before. The location is so perfectly placed that Reykjavík seems to have arranged itself around the hotel as a courtesy to guests. Within minutes you can be admiring Hallgrímskirkja, browsing a bookstore, hunting down a cappuccino, or contemplating whether a country can survive economically if every cinnamon roll costs the equivalent of a small appliance.

It was in a great area where you could walk to all the shops and restaurants very easily. We did have a problem with lights not working in the bathroom but they immediately put us in another room which was very nice.

The room has crumbs on the floor, given it was only 1 night for us, we didn’t make a big deal out of it. We arrived after a long day driving and decided to eat at the restaurant - Tides. The service was SOOOOO slow, 2 hours later we almost fell asleep at the table and believe me, we only had appetizer and main course, not deserts. This hotel is for the hipsters and those who want to be seen, have a very modern vibe but fell short in many ways especially around customer service - it was just OK. I think we got the best service from the bell hop. Definitely NOT a 5-star hotel.

The room was beautifully appointed and very clean. We opted for the Sapphire suite with access to the hot tub. (side note- this is advertised as being private, but it is on a shared balcony with no dividers). We also chose to include breakfast and that was wonderful. There were many hot and cold food options and a good variety of beverages as well. Great offering especially when traveling with kids. You should absolutely visit the spa if you get a chance. It was the best way to end our trip. I was absolutely impressed by the kindness of the staff- Anna at the front desk and Robert with maintenance in particular. Anna did everything she could to assure we had a wonderful stay and Robert was incredibly kind and helpful. They really made the stay exceptional for us. I would ultimately return because of them. You can stay at a nice hotel anywhere, but the staff is what makes this place stand out. Thank you so much for that.
