University Area Romantic Vacations

First the positives: The location is great. Walking distance to Tienanmen/Forbidden City/Wangfujing Street, some good restaurants around, neighbourhood is nice. Breakfast is pretty good, nothing to write home about though. The negatives: Staff couldn't care less if you live or die. Understanding that people in Beijing aren't the friendliest bunch, the reception staff were a particularly cold and uncaring lot, more concerned with their phone screens than anything having to do with your comfort. During my stay, only one staff member ever smiled at me, and that was the cleaning lady. At breakfast, the guy recording your room number at the entrance acts like a prison warden, raising his voice to a yell for you having the nerve to walk into the restaurant without immediately reporting to him for morning inspection. I haven't been spoken to that way since grade school. Room was passable, with dated furniture that looked like it was from 1991. The entrance to the hallway that leads from the elevators to the rooms is so low that at 6'0" I had to duck to pass through. Judging from the caution tape overhead, I wasn't the first one who hit my head there. The ceilings are around 6'6" everywhere on the room floor giving the place a claustrophobic feel. This hotel would never pass fire code in Canada or the US. I've seen similar things in the UK, but that's in charming pub rooms that are 800 years old, not newly built hotels. If I go back to Beijing, I think I'll stay elsewhere.

This is definitely a 1 start hotel. The pictures are deceiving the customers. Hotel is in a very bad condition as soon as you walk in you know that this is not a 4 start hotel. Hotel is falling apart. Staff is nice at least

Had a wonderful stay here. Front desk staff were polite and helpful. Rooms were spotlessly clean with soft bedding. Convenient transportation nearby, overall fantastic experience and highly recommended.

Gorgeous property nestled in a local neighbourhood. Incredible staff and overall a very special stay. Definitely recommend!
