Michael’s apartment is lovely, well furnished, and the perfect location for enjoying downtown Wilmington and all it has to offer. BUT...the building itself has a few quirks you need to be aware of. The building has an elevator which is great if you’re traveling with octogenarians and a lot of crap. This particular elevator has obviously been in service for many years, and apparently get a LOT of use by patrons of the rooftop bar. Fortunately, we were warned by a ‘local’ that we needed to keep all our weight balanced in the center of the elevator, as it had a tendency to ‘hang up’ if overloaded or unbalanced. This proved to be true.
Also, this perfect location comes with it’s share of downtown liveliness...lots of noise from the patrons of the establishments on the first floor of the building, even more activity from those visiting the rooftop bar. Earplugs are a must if you are a light sleeper.
We stayed here for two nights, and met the members of the hard-working Wilmington Fire Department on both of them. First night a drunk in the basement set off the fire alarm, second night was a patron stuck in the elevator. The fireman I spoke with told me that visits to this building were pretty-much routine.
We three old ladies had a good time in Wilmington and would stay at Michael’s again, in spite of all the unexpected excitement!
