After a busy day of adventure and you return to your home base on the lake - relax, go for a kayak, paddle board, or paddle boat and explore the 1 1/2 mile long lake, including a visit to Loon Island where you may glimpse the loons nesting (from a distance, of course). There are two paddle boards; two adult and one child kayaks: and a paddle boat available for your stay. We also have a variety of fishing rods ready to go for fishing off the dock. We have lots of life jackets in the boat house for your use and just about every size possible. There is a gas fire pit near the dock for your use.
In the winter, Long Lake is at the heart of snow machine country. There are also plenty of great trails for cross country skiing and winter biking. Trail maps are in the welcome book. Access is directly out your front door and on to the lake where you will see a marked, groomed trail down the center of the lake which connects to the trail system. You can bring your own snow machines and leave right from the house with easy access on to the lake. Snowhook Adventures can arrange guided dog sled rides or snow machining as well for visitors. For the more adventurous, Alaska Snow Expeditions will deliver snow machines rentals to the house for you to explore the many trails at your leisure.
Lastly, the last great race, the Iditarod Dog Sled Race, starts at the Willow Community Center, just 2 miles away. In minutes, you can watch the mushers and their dogs race down Long Lake and pass right in front of the house. Like many locals, you can pack up drinks and food and head down to the middle of the lake and watch them right up close.
