Private, Cozy Retreat Convenient To Portland And The Gorge

This cozy, detached 1br/1ba cottage is located in a sleepy residential neighborhood in charming downtown Washougal. It's a short walk from the cottage to downtown businesses including a coffee shop, restaurants, brewpub, bar, the local heritage museum, the Pendleton Woolen Mill and the Columbia River waterfront. We are also just a 20 min drive from Portland International Airport (PDX), 30 min from downtown Portland and at the gateway of the Columbia River Gorge.

We are happy to host well behaved dogs and cats. Guests will enjoy their own full kitchen, bathroom with shower, queen size bed, and laundry. Roku TV and wifi are provided. Train whistles are outlawed within city limits but you will hear the frequent rumble of rolling stock as the BNSF Fallbridge sub tracks run directly behind the property.

We have recently (as of May 2021) updated the cottage with with new kitchen appliances and quartz countertops as well as painting the entire unit, adding a new dinette set, couch and Roku TV and other cosmetic improvements. In June 2023 we added a front walkway with lighting and private patio with furniture and a gas grill.

The cottage is located behind the main house on a .3 acre lot on a quiet street. Outside, guests will have access to off street parking for one car (no RVs), a private enclosed patio and gas grill. Inside you will find tv, wifi, coffee maker, microwave and window unit a/c in addition to basic amenities. There is a deluxe queen bed in the bedroom. Insulated walls and double pane windows help muffle the sound of trains which pass behind the property. Most guests report that they are not bothered by the train noise or get used to it quickly.

As there is not an enclosed outdoor space available, we ask that pets traveling with you be supervised at all times.

We are generally here most of the time as we both work from home. As frequent travelers, we understand the desire for space and will not infringe on guests' privacy. On the other hand, we enjoy meeting people and would be glad to have a drink or socialize as the occasion arises. And we are always happy to answer questions or address any needs that may come up during your stay.

You'll need a car to get around here. We're a quick drive from PDX and the Gorge. There is plenty of street parking on D street and we offer one off street spot alongside the house next to the cottage (not RV accessible).

The property was a great location for us exploring the gorge. We did some hiking in general looking around. The property was exactly as described, and the bed was very comfortable. It was very convenient and a nice stay.

I highly recomend staying here , its quiet for the most part , plenty of restraunts and attractions in the area . Good fishing on the columbian and a thousand trails to hike. Plenty of waterfalls withing driving distanceIf you need a guide to fish the Columbian River use Hammond guide services

Cozy cottage, perfect for a getaway

Little cottage on a dead end, offers a cozy setting with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Its close to downtown but keeps you on a quiet street with very little traffic. Furnishings are nice quality and the kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook and eat it. Have stayed 4 times now and highly recommend this little Washougal gem.

We enjoyed our stay. Tidy little place with an very comfortable bed. Good dog walking neighborhood. Train tracks nearby but barely noticed the rumble of the train on the tracks and when we did it was almost soothing. Friendly host made it even better.

Another Great Stay

We had another great stay! Ray and Jae accommodated us when we needed to extend our stay in the PDX area unexpectedly. Great communication and really comfortable space with all the needed amenities when away from home. We greatly appreciate the full kitchen and in-home laundry. Our cat is super comfortable here and loves looking out the windows and playing "hockey" with her toys in the LR and kitchen. Thanks again for a lovely stay!

Worked well for us

My wife and I we’re looking for a place to stay for our anniversary trip. We have dogs and that’s often challenging. I happen to be interested in trains, so the neighborhood is good for me. We used to have a place along a highway and actually find the trains rumbling no big deal compared with the cars/motorcycles/cops and various emergency vehicles that we used to deal with. The place was clean and the host was responsive. The configuration of the property made getting the dogs outside for walks easy. We would definitely stay here again.

Don’t fear the train!

Hubs, cat, and I were traveling to visit family and friends in the greater Portland area. We had a great stay at this location. Easy in and out to WA Rt 14. Ample room with all the needed traveler amenities including a full kitchen and W/D. Very thoughtfully arranged. Comfy bed and suuuuper comfy couch with access to TV/streaming services for Hubs to watch football. (Pro tip, the volume is on the side of the remote-SMH). Hosts super friendly with great sense of humor. Comments about train noise: we’re pretty noise sensitive and really didn’t find it to be an issue. We had an awareness of the train rumble, but easily slept through it. Thanks, Ray & Jae for the hospitality!
