  • The Church of Santa Lucia, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, is located on the hill of the same name in the city of Viana do Castelo. The church was built on the site of a small medieval chapel, known as a pilgrimage site for people with eye diseases. The construction of the temple lasted from 1904 to 1959. The eclectic-style Miguel Ventura Terra project combines neo-romanticism, neo-Gothic and Byzantine architecture. It is generally accepted that the architect was inspired by the forms of the Sacre Coeur Basilica in Paris. To the foot of the church at a height of 195 meters above sea level there is a line of a funicular built in 1923. Tourists can take the elevator to the observation deck under the very dome of the church. A panoramic view of the Lima River valley, mountains and the Atlantic Ocean opens from the platform. In 1927, National Geographic magazine named this species the third most beautiful in the world.

Nice quiet place, well fitted and comfortable.

Stayed initially for three night but enjoyed it so much we had two more nights there. The apartments are well appointed and quite private. The rooms were spacious and well fitted with a jacuzzi in the bedroom. Quiet in grounds of large house on outskirts of Vila de Punhe about 4miles from Viana do Castelo. Easy access to the town. The staff were very nice and the owner was very helpful. The views were lovely over the area and vineyards. Everything worked well and had no problems.

Mooi appartement op heerlijke plek

Prachtig terrein tussen de wijngaarden, goed onderhouden, aan de rand van een rustig plaatsje (dorpskern op zo'n 20 minuten lopen). Ons appartement was ruim, licht, schoon en stil, in nieuwstaat met kwalitatief goede en duurzame materialen (zoals de plavuizenvloer en aluminium kozijnen met dubbel glas). Comfortabel bed, de jacuzzi is een leuke extra. Keuken voorzien van alle benodigdheden, met voldoende pannen, magnetron, waterkoker, broodrooster, staafmixer, koffiezetapparaat en Nespresso-apparaat. In beide kamers goed werkende airco, die we alleen in de slaapkamer spaarzaam hebben gebruikt (het huis is goed koel te houden met de luiken). Prima wifi. Badkamer netjes, meer dan voldoende warm water. Buitenterras op het westen, dus heerlijk buiten eten met zicht op de ondergaande zon boven de wijngaarden en heuvels. Het zwembad ligt heuvelopwaarts naast het huis van de eigenaren. De ontvangst was heel correct, de eigenaresse woont op het terrein en reageert attent op vragen, zonder dat ze heel aanwezig is. Er werd dagelijks schoongemaakt en vuilnis opgehaald, we kregen meerdere malen schone handdoeken en beddengoed. Al met al hadden we hier een heerlijk ontspannen verblijf, echt een aanrader.

Local esplêndido

Lugar lindo. Um dos mais bonitos que já ficamos. A funcionária Bete era um amor. Nos atendeu de forma educada e nos ajudou em tudo que precisamos. Os estabelecimentos deveriam ter mais funcionários assim, pois nos sentimos um pouco em casa.

This is a great location for exploring the area as it is very accessible to lovely towns like Viana do Castelo, Barcelos and Braga as well as lovely beaches. It is in a village setting and is beautifully peaceful despite being close to major routes. The property is lovely with great facilities, everything you could want from a holiday apartment and more, a really luxurious feel to it with the gorgeous outdoor furniture and pool. We would definitely return here again.
