"We stayed with our kids in the loft room. It was a nice spacious room, and a good layout for traveling with kids. There are however no windows in the room. It wasn't a big deal for our short stay, but I would consider a window room if staying longer. The lodge is right by the lake and we enjoyed watching the water ski show and the outdoor space. We didn't have the greatest service in the restaurant and if I stayed again id probably consider going into town for dinner. Overall I would recommend this property for its location, outdoor space and spacious room."
"Very comfortable cabin, nice panfishing off the dock, quiet and we got to watch some bald eagles up close. Pleasant, comfortable seating areas all around. The cabin is stocked very thoughtfully with anything you might need--it's evident the host has put a lot of effort into making sure your stay is perfect. I'm not sure there are chairs for the firepit area, so might want to bring those. The water access is quite steep. The upstairs sleeping is probably best shared by a family unit or close friends due to access to the bathroom. Overall, very clean and very comfortable, easy and well set up. We took a short drive to Straight Lake State Park for hiking."
"The property is a unique multi-level cabin on a lovely lake. It is a fairly quiet neighborhood a good distance from other residents, however there were some noisy kids but only for brief times. I will mention two considerations. The property has many steps and stairs both inside and down to the lake. Persons with mobility limitations might reconsider. Secondly while the property was very clean in every way the beds are somewhat meager, particularly the quality of mattresses. Even with these concerns my friends and I would certainly return for another go-round."
"We had a wonderful time again this year. It is a quiet place on a really nice lake. Plenty of room for our group of 10. The kids had so much fun swimming off the dock and we go fishing every day."
Charming Balsam Lake Waterfront Cabin / Cottage-Twinhome
10/10 Excellent
"Girls get away weekendLocation, location, location!!! This is it. Good driving distance to towns, hiking trails, pAddleboat excursion. The vacation rental has a nice grassy flat yard and a grassy area that sits right next to balsam Lake. Even though we did not have boat or fishing activity… It was gorgeous to sit outside on the porch swing and enjoy the lake activity. It is a cozy cabin, but adequate. The host has utilized every inch. Love the exposed wood ceiling, beds were comfortable and each bedroom had a dresser shelving and closet space. The kitchen had all the cooking essentials which we appreciated as 90% of the meals were made at the cabin. The kitchen is small, but we made do. The dining table provides wonderful lake views. There was adequate living room furniture. Outdoor furniture on deck was nice with outdoor accent lighting. We played many games out there. The gas grill was great for grilling. Check out Instructions are a breeze. The host was wonderful and easy to work with though we did not have issues. We reached out to him for recommendations and he always responded quickly. would definitely return to cabin and this beautiful area. So much to explore and trails not hiked yet Thanks for opening your cabin to us South Dakota flatlanders!!! Enjoyed trees and lakes, although there was plenty of soybean and corn fields to remind us of home."
