Ok overnight stay
Service excellent from the owner, couldnt fault him at all. The room was slightly disappointing, could hear noise from other rooms. Not the cleanest either. Just needs the small things to make it that much better. On the positive side, food was amazing...but needs a bit of education on allergies.

Thanks so much for your feedback, we are trying hard with the cleanliness of our rooms, but have been hampered by not having decorated last winter and spring as we had thought we had sold the hotel only to find out after 7 months the prospective purchasers couldn’t raise the money! Sorry about not having another toaster to toast the gluten free bread, we have now purchased another toaster to ensure this is possible.

Room was dusty and very tired. Floor had not been hoovered properly for a very long time. The whole building needs a refurbish. Staff were attentive and when i complained they tried to address the problems. However we heard nothing from management.. we will not be returning.

Dear Alex, thank you for your comments and feedback. We do understand that some decorating urgently needs to be done and we shall address this in the low season. The problem has been caused by an abortive sale which was meant to happen during last winter and hence we didn’t do any decorating as we thought we were about to sell. The buyer kept us off the market from September 2022 to March 2023 and then pulled out of the sale. All very frustrating and the cause of these negative reviews.

Many thanks for your feedback, unfortunately we didn’t do any decorating over the winter months, because we thought we had sold the business but the buyer pulled out in March after keeping us off the market for 7 months.

Quaint 18 century mill conversion. Stairs were a bit difficult for me as I have some mobility problems. Staff were excellent, but disapointed in some aspects of the food.

Excellent base for exploring Cornwall
A wonderful find. We stayed for 4 nights and used The Mill House Inn as our base. Welcoming staff; superb breakfasts and evening meal; fine choice of beers. Good value for money.

The food here is excellent staff good our room was small but clean the rest of the property was shabby and needed a good clean and decorating. We had to cut our holiday short but would not have enjoyed staying here anyway another night. If you cannot climb steep stairs this is not for you.

Biggest mistake not reading the bad reviews properly, everything is spot on. We did not expect much as we knew we are in the country side and is an Inn place, but God I have never seen a property so dirty such as this place and I do not understand how is advertised and sold online. This place it is tidy but very dirty. First of all the smell that hits you, and then the filthy carpets/floors and doors at all the entrances, such a dirty kettle with water left from a previous use. It is so much to say about this place but not enough characters to write more. The only good thing about this place are the two members of staff really polite, and another thing is the clean sheets, they are probably delivered from a laundrette as they were delivery bags on the coridors, but thats it. The rest is a shock.

the rooms look like they haven't been thoroughly cleaned in 10 years, very dusty, carpets dirty, cobwebs everywhere. the staff were friendly, the food was fine, but the building and patio area are tired. needs a major sprucing up!!!

Delightful overnight stop.
Loved our short stay at this hotel, my type of place, a bit quirky and out of the way, but not far from where you want to visit. Steepish uneven staircases won't suit everyone, but room was clean and comfortable, food was excellent and service great. No, there aren't table cloths or candles on the tables in the restaurant, it's not 'chic' like that, but it's full of character and homely, and as mentioned the food was exceptional.

Rustic but dirty
We love staying in places with history but this placed needed a deep cleaning. Dusty, cobwebs and items left by previous guests. Obvious that covid cleaning is non-existant.

Shabby
This old building looks good from the outside, but don't be fooled. It's very rundown and shabby inside. Our room was tiny and very poor value for the price. I had to duck my head to walk the hallways. Breakfast is good and staff are nice.

More cleaning needed - decor was shabby
The breakfast was excellent. The room needed a good spring clean and the bathroom needed a spring clean too. Walls needed washing and there was thick dust on the blind. The rooms needed redecoration really.

Our room was so dirty. There were multiple cobwebs and spiders. A layer of dust was on the lamps, side tables, doors, trim work, around the shower inside and out and the carpet was old and dirty. I like old and even quirky with different levels of an old building. But to have it be dirty is disgusting. The old mattress did not have anything other than a sheet over it. When I shut the curtains, there was an insect in the folds. I was hesitant to eat breakfast after seeing the state of the room, but we tried it and there was a great selection. But again, dirty walls, cobwebs behind the log burner, dirty tea pot spout. I’m sure this would be a great place if only it were clean.

100% the best stay we’ve had
Our stay was amazing, the room was comfortable and the shower was large. The room was full of character. Drinks in the bar was great, entertaining and super friendly, we really felt welcomed. We ate at the restaurant and the food was incredible, breakfast was the best breakfast we’ve ever had. The price is fantastic, I am so glad we’ve found this gem of a place because we sure will be back!

The Mill House Inn
Found this gem on the internet for one night of a tour of the Southwest. Sensibly restored old mill retaining so much of the original character. Comfortable well-equipped rooms and lovely food served by friendly people.

Comfortable stay in a great location
Had a lovely stay at the Mill House. e booked for two days but decided to add on another two nights. Our double room was small but comfortable. Staff were welcoming and helpful. We ate here every evening too and the food as great. Breakfasts were lovely. I'd definitely stay again!

Tired, Neglected, Tatty, Unloved
My partner and I stayed for one night with our dog, Lizzie. We were booked into the attached self-contained cottage and we're looking forward to a comfortable stay. On arrival the owner advised that dogs were not allowed in the cottage (this was not mentioned on thehotels.com website, which stated ‘dog friendly’). We made the owner aware of this who reluctantly acknowledge the situation, grabbed the key and lead us to the cottage. The cottage is on 2 levels, was a hot day and none of the windows had been opened ahead of time and was extremely over heated, smelt stuffy and was unclean in many areas. The wooden blinds on the window were damaged, the two seater small sofa was a second hand item covered by a dark coloured tatty throw. The refrigerator in the room was old and made a loud buzzing sound. The television was small, bottom end wall mounted. Downstairs into the bedroom was a cooler but damp smell, un-ventilated space, with all windows closed. The carpet was dark blue low quality, aged. An electric portable radiator, very old, illuminated the room with a spark every time the thermostat clicked. The bathroom window recessed into a deep wall, unreachable to open it. The towel rail was running flat out hot, with a broken thermostatic valve meaning it could not be shut off. Everything about this cottage was low quality, tired, neglected, but rented out at £200 per night. The hotel screamed lack of maintenance, what is tatty, unloved and in need of repairs everywhere.
