Finding the Otonui Paddleboat is the only slightly challenging aspect of this wonderful attraction in Tauranga - just find the Waimarino Adventure Park which is next door. The steamer is a 100 year old flat bottomed boat that has been lovingly restored and takes you on a two hour cruise down the Wairoa River. It's history is extensive - the boat and the river. It has had two restorations, one after being buried under a shingle bank for twenty years and then after it was burned down to it's bare bones. We were given a hot drink to sip on, and sat at the front of the boat to admire the view. The river was almost completely still, only disturbed by the occasional kayaker or bird. we passed native and regenerative forest, farmland, kiwifruit plantations and a river-side mansion occasionally too! It was peaceful, beautiful and thoroughly enjoyable. Peter, the owner and guide was funny and informative, and it's clear to see that he loves his job and his tour!
