It is the little things in life that matter

Yesterday, I noticed many people burning paper piles along the street. I know that this kind of paper is called Joss Paper(maybe jinzhi - 金纸) and that it is usually burnt for offering to the dead.

I will ask my students and try to get a better answer later, but in any event, it is a tradition that is displayed without much pomp and circumstances and speaks to Chinese culture. Do your thing and move on...very cool.

This shot is taken just 3-5 minutes walk from the Longchuan river park of Shangbacun. The road/path is the main road of this small hillside village (the suburbs of Shangbacun?).

I find myself wondering how different is this alley compared to my childhood home in suburban Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. And all the people I meet on the road, how different are their thoughts to mine?

Prefab housing types 1, 2 and 3

Actually, the blue and white shacks in the foreground are the only prefab houses in the picture, but who's counting. These houses are seen at almost every large development site as this is the housing for the migrant labourers who are doing most of the work on site.

Once the site is completed, the workers and their houses migrate to the next site that is scheduled to be built...man what a life!
I dream, therefore I think I am - Rene Descartes' half cousin

There are some days when I just wish I was a blade of grass swaying in the wind listening only to the whispers of the mitochondrial horde tweeting the afternoon away.
