At the Vasa Museum (Vasamuseet) you can learn about the history of a 17th-century battleship, from its creation to its rescue and preservation. In 1628 the Vasa battleship set sail from Stockholm’s harbor on its maiden voyage; however, it capsized just minutes after departure. Over 300 years later, marine archeologists rescued the ship and in 1990 made it a public museum.

At Drottningholm Palace visit the reception halls of a royal palace, watch opera performances and explore manicured gardens. Built in the 1600s by Nicodemus Tessin the Elder, the palace became the permanent residence of Sweden’s royal family in 1981. In 1991, the palace and grounds became Sweden’s first internationally recognized World Heritage Site.

Part of one of Sweden’s royal palaces and a UNESCO site, the Chinese Pavilion is an architectural treasure in western Stockholm. Its Disneyesque appearance has striking golden features and traditional Chinese elements that make it stand out against the Scandinavian designs of Stockholm.
