Silent Valley Reservoir

Completely self service so staff is n/a. Room was clean except for dust on upper shelf. Towels were small and thin and mine had a large hole in it. Bed is a firm camping style mattress. Electric kettle provided but I had to keep it on the floor because the cord was too short to reach the outlet. The instant coffee and tea is very nice. In theory there’s internet but even when my phone showed a strong WiFi connection, I had no luck actually getting it to work and relied on cellular. Provided soap and shampoo were very thin as if stretched with water, but the shower holds temperature well. Private bathroom is nice even if there’s no towel rack. Great location near a strip of shops and restaurants and train/bus station. My room code and the code to open the front door were the same which was a little sketchy. The police asked me to let them into the building one of the nights to respond to a different room. The building is very loud. My room was right at the top of the entrance and I could hear every coming and going. I could also hear the person in the room above mine snoring.

We haven’t stayed since the hotel was bought and revamped so were excited to see what it was like. Although the hotel is lovely we were a little disappointed. Service wasn’t great in the bar or restaurant. 1 person serving at the bar, serving one person at a time and cleaning tables etc while people were waiting at the bar. Asked for a stronger coffee at breakfast which never arrived, even after asking twice. The rooms were nice but a bit neglected with lots of paint chips etc. There were 2 poeple staying but only one towel in our bathroom so had to ring down to reception for more. We booked mainly to relax in the spa but only stayed 45 mins as it was full of young children. We should have checked ahead of time but we didn’t realise the pool etc was open for families from 9am - 5:30pm. Overall I expected much more attention to detail and better service for the price that was laid - over £300 for 1 night B&B
