  • #TroveOn Yes, Monteriggioni just might be the quintessential walled medieval village in Tuscany. It's small enough to perhaps be called "cute" but you won't catch me using this term. Monteriggioni began as a border fortress built on a round hill by Sienna against the Florentines. It is famous for the intact defensive structure that held up against repeated Florentine attacks in the 11th century; its 10 meter high walls and 14 towers can still be seen for miles around. Monteriggioni has been featured in movies as a typical medieval village. The village is slightly elliptical in shape with two gates (a third has been plugged). The major gate tourists will use when coming from the parking lot, Porta Franca, owes its name to the Via Francigena--Monteriggione was a major stop on the pilgrimage trail from Cantebury to Rome. The Romanesque Church of Santa Maria Assunta will offer assistance with housing for modern pilgrims traveling the Francigena pilgrimage route. Monteriggioni was a sleepy village of farmers and sheep herders as late as the 1960's. Today it exists entirely for tourists and pilgrims. You'll find wine shops, a tasting room, restaurants and hotels in the small village. This is not neccessarily a disadvantage, although some times it's nice to see some locals puttering about once in a while. Where is Monteriggioni? Monteriggioni is located in the province of Siena, 14km to the northwest of Siena (54km from Florence). While it can be done as a day trip from Siena, you might be better off staying the night--Monteriggioni is much more evocative when the tourists leave late in the afternoon and you can sit in a courtyard sipping a glass of Chianti. Monteriggioni is surrounded by vineyards, and is known for its wine production.

😊A 5 minuti di auto dal centro di Siena, e nello stesso tempo immersi nel silenzio della natura e del verde. Piscina anch’essa. Il paradiso!

Questo posto ci è entrato nel cuore. Immerso nel silenzio a 2 passi da Siena, è l'ideale per fare escursioni nei dintorni o anche solo per rilassarsi a bordo piscina. Cavalli che pascolano, cagnolini adorabili ed Elena, la proprietaria, sempre presente e sorridente. Colazione squisita con torte fatte in casa. Super!

The property is a working horse stable, not just a room rental for tourists. There are a lot of activities on site, including nature walks and children’s play equipment. Our room was huge. Lots of attention to detail. Breakfast was great. Real feal of Tuscany and Italy. Relax or use as a jump off point to visit all the wonderful Tuscan hill towns, including Siena, which is only a few miles away. Owner is very helpful and personable. We will be back.

Relax, cordialità e vicinanza a Siena.

Buongiorno. abbiamo trascorso un piacevolissimo soggiorno, per quanto breve (4 giorni), con la mia famiglia. Un podere magnifico, immerso nella campagna toscana ma vicinissimo a Siena, tranquillissimo, pulito, con ampi spazi e assolutamente ideale per rilassarsi e godersi la Toscana verace. Le stanze sono rustiche ma ampie, pulite, e confortevoli. Lo staff (conduzione familiare) cordiale, gentilissimo e molto disponibile, ci è venuto incontro per una nostra piccola esigenza e lo abbiamo apprezzato moltissimo. Colazione abbondante e coerente con il tipo di ospitalità. Siamo stati bene e siamo molto soddisfatti, sicuramente consigliamo questa struttura e sicuramente, alla prossima occasione in Toscana, ci torneremo.

Unterkunft in der Nähe von Siena

Wir hatten für 5 Nächte gebucht. Die uns zugeteilte Wohnung war schummerig und das Bad eine einzige Katastrophe. Die Dusche war mit einem Duschvorhang abgetrennt, welcher an einer Stange befestigt war, welche gleich abzubrechen drohte. Man hatte keinen Platz in der Dusche sich umzudrehen. Das Wasser wurde auch erst nach ca. 2 Minuten warm. Am Boden bildete sich Schimmel. Das Schlafzimmer war schummrig. Die Leitungen lagen über Putz. Die Wohnung wurde während unseres Aufenthalts nicht gereinigt. Das Frühstück haben wir in einem etwas dunklen gewölbten Raum eingenommen. Teilweise standen billige Blechdosen auf dem "Frühstücksbuffet-Tisch". Wir sind dann nach 4 Nächten abgereist

La mia esperienza e stata negativa,avevo specificato di avere un disabile,ma loro mi hanno detto che non riescono a vedere sul vostro portale questa specifica, x andare a fare colazione c'erano le scale, per fortuna eravamo in due...oltre al fatto che non avrei dovuto pagare la tassa di soggiorno e me l'hanno fatta pagare sempre xke non riescono a vederlo dal portale, e io basta che si affaccia fuori e vede mia figlia in carrozzina...camera freddissima ...e umida ,colazione molto scadente e la sig. Poco cordiale.Sicuramente non ci torneremo più.

Very nice Agriturismo

Very nice and relaxing stay. The owner and her staff were all very accommodating, the location near Siena and other towns was very convenient, and the stay there was pleasant. Breakfast was ok - we've had better at the other hotels we've stayed at. But I would definitely recommend a stay here.

The behaviour of the owner felt uncomfortable

Unfortunately we didn't have so nice stay at the farm. They have a great potential at the place with some tidying all over plus having a bit more lighting at night. And the reception should definitely get some renovation because it smells so much cigarette. The biggest disappointment to us was that the pool closed for the winter the same day we arrived even though the owner had said earlier to me that it would be open when I asked by email. Without pool you can as well stay in the city of Siena for the same price. Owners are nice if you are nice to them. I gave some bad feedback due to the pool and they became really angry and I honestly felt a little afraid of staying there after that. I don't think that's acceptable behaviour for an owner. They also thought that I was asking too many questions. This is also something I think is a part of having a "hotel". The breakfast was good, especially the bread. The flat we got was nice but there was a stop in the shower. I'm sure the place is nice in the summer with more lights and the pool.

Difficult to locate. GPS coordinates would help immensely. Biggest complaint is that the towels are of thin cotton (like bed sheet material), so rather useless for the purpose. Also, ran out of hot water one night (of two-night stay). Otherwise, a very charming, quiet, rural setting, and an excellent value.
