"We really wanted to like the place but as per the reviews, it is very tired and even the food seems to be cooked with sadness. The staff were lovely but overall the atmosphere was very tired. Our Japanese style family room was the highlight, an absolute gem, which would have been amazing in its heyday. They have capitilized on the fact that most people will only stay one night or only go to one ryokan during their japan visit, and will not have basis to compare. We just checked into another ryokan of similar expense, and there is no comparison-this place needs a refit or should close down. Everything in this hotel is the exact same as it was 50 years ago when they built it-the carpet, the paint, even the japanese hotel...
