The building is lovely and the bedroom was fine although the tv had issues. On the downside it has pretensions. I was told that I needed to be down at 7 for dinner at 7:30, I was eventually served dinner at 8:15. The food was poor and the main bore little resemblance to its description on the menu. Breakfast was overcooked and was prepared, not what I expect for £16:50. The final insult was a £9:49 service charge which when questioned was for service in the restaurant in addition to the £45 charge for two poor courses. I won’t be back

We came for a friend ‘ s funeral, so the choice of a hotel close by was imperative. Excellent reviews. The only annoying problem was the sounding of the fire alarm at 23.30! The Christmas decorations were beautiful, the hotel was comfortable.

Absolutely stunning building with a cozy bar and restaurant. The room was spacious and very quiet despite facing the car park. The shower was a bit temperamental and wouldn't heat up probably but other than that we had a wonderful stay.

The property itself was charming, there were some areas like our room that needed attention - redecorating, ceiling repairs and the plugs in the bathroom were set too low so sink and bath wouldn't drain properly. Noise - there was a wedding on and the noise was bad from music and people outside arguing and ready to start a fight. I requested to have the music turned down as the bass was way too heavy and we couldn't sleep. This didn't happen so I asked reception again and was told that they couldn't accommodate this as it was a wedding. I advised of the arguing and swearing outside our window and we were offered to be moved to a quieter room and the reception man came into our room (room 3) so he could hear the noise for himself as that room was supposed to be a quiet room when weddings were on. I think if there is a wedding on, anyone booking should be made aware of that as we would not have booked to stay here if we had known there was a wedding on. We ended up eating in the hotel as we were concerned we wouldn't get a parking space if we went out as the place was rammed with cars. So we ended up spending £90 for a meal and 2 drinks instead of £30 elsewhere. We ordered ribeye steak and were served sirloin - we weren't advised that's just what came so that was a little disappointing and both were overdone too. We didn't want to complain as overall the lady serving us was really nice and the food was quite tasty. Overall, from our perspective a disappointing stay.

Fantastic wedding venue, staff very attentive. Great food, catered superbly for a large wedding party. Plugs in Bath and sink allowed water to drain through which has been brought to the attention of reception on departure

Very Nice Hotel, very quiet with good friendly staff. We struggled with the shower and getting it to work efficiently and the fan in the bathroom did not work, but otherwise a great stay. The food was excellent.

We had a horrible experience in the restaurant, credit to the staff they offered us complimentary dessert and tea and coffee but we had lost faith by then. The property is old but poorly maintained. The sinks didn’t drain, there were mysterious stains on the carpet, upon first entering the whole place smelt like a beer hall. The shining glory of this place is the staff, each and every one of them. It’s a shame the property and the food isn’t up to scratch.

Nice hotel, homely
Lovely stay would recommend highly, however something to note. Pint of San Miguel £6.50 ouch Also when I stayed they had a set a la carte menu which was £33 no other food options available, this was for 3 courses when normally I would just have a main. Other than this, highly recommended

This is a unique 16th century Hall circa 1584 - if you want the real thing this really is it - excellent service in a genuine Elizabethan setting - a hidden gem.

Hi David, Thank you for your feedback on the hotel, the building and gardens are certainly a hidden gem in the countryside just out of the hustle an bustle of the city. Very close to some countryside beauty spots too very popular for guests to visit guests during their stay.

The gardens were really beautiful and in the evening the lights made it even more magical. The food was incredible and the staff were great, really helpful. There are peacocks on the property, which I didn’t get to see, but I did get a lovely chunk of poo on my new white trainers, so watch your step on the grass. Would definitely recommend this hotel even if it’s just to pop in for a meal.
