overprice but underrated.
The bathroom door could not be locked from inside. There is no ventilation in the toilet so after finishing the business, the bad smell could not escape apart from the main window of the room. The hot water in the sink was not working.

Dear guest, seems like you didn't notice the skylight in the bathroom, that easily can be opened, hot water works you just need to run it a bit longer. You requested sea view room and it was granted with no extra charge also you requested late check out until midday and it was granted with no extra charge. We cant understand why you stayed for 3 days without mentioning any of these issues which could had been sorted straight away. Kind regards, Altavia Hotel

You get what you pay for. Staff is super nice and friendly. Room not so great. Very out dated. Bathroom extremely outdated. Tv never worked at all. Breakfast was ok. Nothing to write home about but can’t really complain either. Served its purpose.

Stay was ok only because it was close to the Beach. Room was very old fashioned so was the building the room smelt of toilet and bath room needed some TLC spiders in the bathroom and room. Bed very uncomfortable with two single ones out together. Breakfast was nice but overall it needs a revamp needs seriously uodating.

this hotel is nothing to say about rate too many problem there bed no good shower no good no working no Extractor Fan in toilet or bathroom dirty kettle in the rooms no healthy to use or make tea or coffee wi-fi no reach to rooms only working downstairs or public area in hotel too many spider in side room and bathroom . this hotel need refurbishment furniture completely .

Desperate need of a makeover
Hotel was close to the beach and the breakfast, although very small, was fine. Unfortunately that is the only good things about this place. The hotel is very run down and in desperate need of a makeover. Our room was dirty, full of cobwebs, and there was a grubby carpet in the bathroom and a shower that barely worked. In the six nights we stayed we never had the bedding changed and no fresh towels. Fawlty Towers definitely springs to mind. I would not recommend staying here .

Dehumanisation and total ripoff by altavia hotel
To say these is an horrible place to stay is an understatement.To start the people here are horrible and looked down on all their guests like pest.The breakfast is horrible.the rooms are like staying i. A chicken shed as you can hear all your footsteps like you are falling through the floorings.the rooms are without bath soaps.The rooms are very dirty and filthy.The aeration is poor as the building is very old and not much work has being done to improve it.God help you if you ask the workers and especially the owner who sleeps with his workers for help as they are very proud and rude.Even though on several occasions we made it clear we have got little kids and a pregnant lady among us they still kept on making uncooked egg .very awkward toast,tiny milk,tea and coffee in a rusted pot.The kids developed stomach ache throughout our stay.Dont go to these hotel if you value life

Communal lounge and dining area good, breakfast was fine. Confusion over payment of room and room moved twice from original booking. Bedroom felt far closer to a youth hostel than hotel but kind of had all you needed (except coffee as only tea available). Staff very friendly and helpful on the whole. Free parking and free wifi.

not happy at all.
The hotel is old, it smelt of damp. The bathroom was an after thought, so small that if you bent over the basement you pushed the door open allowing no privacy. The bedside lamp flashes and sparked an worked no more. The television only worked when it wanted to. We had our twin grandsons with us both of whom are autistic, so was not good for them.

Uncomfortable
We booked two rooms(£150), Its a very old type hotel, duvet cover and towels are dark colours(to hide the poor quality) and very poor conditions. Toilet was bad condition. Wifi is very weak signal. Breakfast was worth less than a pound per head Very cheap items. Customer service was horrible. Did not have high chair for baby. I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Nice stay , hotel.com gave us the wrong price !
Building is dated and is being gradually brought back up . John is a nice easy going host . I recommend staying here for a budget based stay , our room had a sea view , plenty of space , tv , bath/shower ensuite kettle ...quite comfortable . I wasn't happy that the hotel.com confirmed a price to me and I was given a higher bill , this I think is a little unfair and should be made clear to both parties to save any awkwardness , we paid what we were asked to pay by hotel owner but it was higher than we were told by hotel.com to pay by £27/ room ! I reiterate John is a nice fella and we didn't want to cause a problem as we would like to return again !

It is what it is
The Hotel is large and close to the beach. The rooms are a good size although they are in need of modernizing. The owner is a very friendly and interesting person and he doesn't intrude. Breakfast is a very organized affair, and by ordering it in advance it's swiftly prepared with no fuss.

Nice hotel - close to beach/pier
Hotel was a pleasant stay - staff were nice and welcoming and had respected our additional requests. Room was okay for us provided enough room for 2 adults and 2 small children and had a basic en-suite shower and w/c. TV wasn't working due to weak signal and room was a bit outdated/had paint smell. It did also get noisy in the night given the location. However for 1 night stay this was all very minor points for us the main thing was we all had a nights rest followed by a lovely full breakfast with a view of the sea. Overall - a good hotel for the odd night(s) stay and we left with a smile.

No towels was provided and kettle so we had to ask. There was no towel rail . Wi-fi reception was very poor . Not much hospitality and the welcome was cold.

Location fine but overall not satisfied
I'll not recommend to others. toilet is so narrow lite off and requested to fix it, someone came but couldn't. Spent overnight without proper light. Breakfast okey but have to stick on their time 08:30.

Altavia hotel stay with young family
I was planning to go to the Isle of Wight on holiday with my wife and two kids and the cheapest deal I could find was for the altavia hotel. But when I checked the reviews out apart from one very good one the others were very bad. I decided to take the plunge and booked anyways, and I did not regret it. I spoke to the owner, John, to book a ferry at first. He sounded very nice and got me a good discount. On arrival I was amazed at the location of the hotel as it was a few minutes walk from the beach and in the sandown town centre. John is an amazingly nice guy. When I got to the hotel quite a few rooms were empty, he showed me all of them and let me choose the one I liked. He did mention that breakfast was at 8am and he would knock at the door if we were not out by 9. Even though he never did that but this was very good for me as we got the kids to breakfast nice and early then had the whole day to enjoy instead of staying in bed till late.yes, the building is a little dated but it has recently been redone so all the old reviews about the state and condition are defunct in my opinion. If I went to Isle of Wight again, I would definitely book this hotel again. Me, the wife and our 5 and 1 year old loved our stay here. And as sandown is so close to many of the attractions in the island it was amazingly convenient.

rubbish hotel to the beach
no hot water, the toilet doesnt flush when we went to the owner he said he will get someone then we waited 2 hours and then we went and asked him and he got annoyed and angry and was about to hit me we then got the police and then he said we didnt pay and lied and we got kicked out but we spoke to expedia and got our money back amd never go there.

Absolutey shocking hotel, arrived having booked a family room to be told one wasn't available. We were offered two separate rooms with the hotel owner (a strange character, scary). Unfortunately everywhere else was booked and being 9pm we had to stay although we had to sleep on the floor as there was no way I was going to sleep in a different room to my children. Also very dated, not very well finished and less than average breakfast, could not wait to leave thankfully it was just for 1 night.AVOID at all cost.

Dated hotel but lovely staff
I recently stayed with my partner and 2 children. On arrival I was met by a very friendly, welcoming and helpful man. He said there were 3 rooms available and offered me the choice of them which I thought was kind. The room was clean and comfortable and the only real problem we had with it was the bathroom. It was tiny. Barely room to turn around and certainly not big enough to get dressed or dried after having a shower. Now I say shower but I use this term in the loosest way possible. It was a trickle. The trickle went from being scalding hot to freezing cold. I was unable to allow my children to wash in it as they would have been burnt. I purchased wipes!! The breakfast was satisfactory with a choice of cereal and a cooked breakfast with as much tea and toast that you could want. The staff were the nicest thing about this hotel. Very warm and friendly. Unfortunately, we probably wouldn't stay again...
