"Transport
There is no free airport shuttle. The Plana bus runs from the airport to central points in Salou/Barcelona for €3.30, which is convenient but not clearly advertised by the hotel. They run at specific times.
Check‑in
Check‑in was more complicated than expected. Guests must show proof of booking if it was made through an agency, but this requirement wasn’t communicated beforehand. The process would have been smoother if the hotel had verified this prior to arrival.
Room
The room was a good size and included basic toiletries (hand wash, body wash, shampoo/conditioner). However, the floor wasn’t properly cleaned on arrival, though housekeeping resolved it when asked.
The Wi‑Fi was unreliable, and the TV offered mostly Spanish channels with no option to connect personal devices.
Noise was a persistent issue: housekeeping is loud between 10 am and 2 pm, and as a family hotel, there are frequent corridor noises from children and slamming doors.
Restaurants
The food was underwhelming. The buffet felt mass‑produced, with warm—not hot—dishes and limited variety. The live‑cooking station was the highlight, offering steak, fish, and chicken. Desserts were average.
Location
The strongest aspect of the hotel. It’s centrally located near shops, the beach, and the amusement park, with Reus Airport only about 15 minutes away.
Would I return?
Probably not. Although the late‑night activities seemed popular, the overall experience didn’t justify a repeat stay."
"Cant beat this hotel for kids considering the price. 5 nights of fun. The kids club staff were great too. Looking forward to returning (food was average buffet experience)"
"Surprisingly just a basic Check in not particularly Welcoming - Room was Clean & Attentive Housekeeping - Bedding Strange Top Sheet/Blanket/Top Sheet - No Duvet?? with Bolster Pillows - Excessive Lighting (10 Lights) in Room which were extremely Bright - No Slip Mat in Shower - Very Dangerous! We had a Room with Partial Sea View ‘Partial being the ultimate word’ you could just see on the horizon between the tree tops a bit of Blue.
Wasteful Excessive Lighting across the Whole of the Ground Floor during Daytime Brightly Sunshine Hours?
Food sadly was Disappointing - Poor Variety unless you like Pork/Beef every meal especially the Children’s - In 9 days Chicken only Once and sadly No Paella - The Soups were awful I’ve never had Clear Minestrone. Bread and Fruit were not Fresh - Lots of Big Dishes and Bread everywhere gave a false illusion. Dessert Area - well the same Gateau’s just called differently including a Red Apple Cake? Breakfast Streaky Bacon/Fried Eggs swimming in Oil - Scrambled Eggs were inedible - No Fruit Yogurts or Fruit Purée to add to plain yogurt - Pastries again were not Freshly Baked.
Across nearly all Dishes were Tasteless what you experience with Packet or Frozen Food - A Hotel of the Rating I would expect a ‘Chef’ in Residence who ensures a High Standard of Tasteful Dishes.
Unfortunately we will not return to this Hotel."
"A well run and comfortable hotel. Very friendly and welcoming staff particularly in the Food was an extensive buffet with masses of choice. Rooms are spacious with an extra bedroom leading off the main room. Everything well geared up for families and small children.
Around 10 mins easy walk to the excellent beach, every sort of bar and restaurant within a few mins walk.
Payable parking underneath the hotel or plenty of free on-street parking nearby."
"Allocated a room in Iguana block - very strong smell of cannabis. Not great first impressions or aroma for a family hotel. Room was clean on arrival, but looked tired and dated. Very thin walls and poor window insulation, we could hear the person next door snoring and sound of the train announcements from the station. Also very cramped for a family of 4, two double beds pushed together - very cosy!!
There was a big clump of black hair that sat outside our room for the duration of our stay (3 nights) - the corridors needed a good vacuum. The lift was broken upon arrival and still not fixed when we left.
Breakfast was busy, but had good variety and was well stocked.
We used the luggage storage facility on departure costing 6euros. The machine glitched meaning our luggage was stuck as the door would not open!! Fortunately the concierge on duty was very helpful and was able to reboot the system and release the door.
Not sure it’s 4*."
Hotel Salou Sunset (Adults Recommended) by Pierre & Vacances
6/10 Okay
"Staff friendly and helpful. Went out of season and hotel was grubby in communal areas. I could imagine pool area being too small when the is hotel busy. Overall, a good stay for price paid."
"The hotel is a friendly and welcoming place to stay. The rooms are a little tired in places, but the staff and the cleanliness are everything that you want. The communal areas are welcoming and the food is a very good standard"
