## Emplacement
A corsair city turned towards the sea, Saint-Malo is today a renowned seaside resort. Surrounded by ramparts, the walled city of Saint-Malo was admirably rebuilt identically after 80% of it was destroyed in August 1944. The city of Saint-Malo, with its ramparts, its castle and its beautiful buildings, is a superb ensemble. The walk along the ramparts offers splendid views of the sea, the sandy beaches at the foot of the ramparts, the National Fort, the harbour and the buildings of the town itself. To learn about the history of Saint-Malo, head for the large castle keep, which houses the museum of the history of the city and the Malouin region. Visitors can also visit the Grand Aquarium de Saint-Malo, a space entirely dedicated to the marine world. Every four years, the city of Saint-Malo hosts the start of the Route du Rhum, the famous single-handed transatlantic sailing race that links Saint-Malo to Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe.
