Location
The resort of Porto Cesareo (5 minutes drive) is known for its beautiful beaches and lively nightlife. The coastline slopes gently into the water which makes it perfect for children and elderly visitors. The beach of Torre Lapillo is 4km long and starts just 12 minutes from the villa. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in the region. The vibrant town of Torre Lapillo has a wide variety of restaurants and cafés to suit all budgets.
For self-catering, Porto Cesareo’s weekly market (Thursday) is the best place to find the finest local food, including olive oil and a variety of cheeses. Alternatively, there are several supermarkets and grocery stores in the town centre just 5 minutes away.
Further down the Ionian coast, the historic town of Gallipoli (30 minutes) is a very popular tourist destination during the summer months. In Greek, Gallipoli means “beautiful city” and the town does not disappoint. The town’s ancient walls soar over the harbour and fishing port. There is a daily fish market where if you go early you can pick up the freshest catch of the day.
The regional capital is Lecce (35 minutes). Known as the “Florence of the South”, Lecce is famous for its stunning baroque architecture as well as its Roman ruins. It makes a great day out for all ages.
The closest airport is at Brindisi - 1 hour away by car.
