Been staying here for years - it never changes which is lovely - you know what you are getting. 5 star service, amazing food, grounds are stunning, the pool is divine and the backdrop of either the hotel behind or the golf course from the pool is equally tranquil.

Our 2 night stay at the Penina was the highlight of our trip to Portugal. Every member of the team were so friendly and welcoming. The room was spotlessly clean, the grounds and facilities at the pool were wonderful. The food in the Henry Cotton restaurant was excellent. We played tennis and the golf course was amazing and excellent value. We would definitely recommend and we are already planning to return to the Penina next year. Thank you Penina for a wonderful stay.

The property is very nice, the pool is superb however they close it very early at 7 pm but I understand they may want to prevent noise for the tenants facing the pool. The staff in general was nice, but a few were a little annoyed by questions. You need a car I will not walk outside the property since it is a main road. They offer a shuttle to the Alvor beach ( it is a public beach) you can inquire if they offer other stops, I am sure Uber works fine too. If dinning in the property make sure to reserve in advance. Our room on the 4th floor was far from the elevator, easier to take the stairs, however our view was breathtaking looking at the golf course, pool, and far town (back of the property) it had a semi second level with a desk and balcony very nice room layout for two. The buffet breakfast was also very nice with a good selection. It was definitely a beautiful stay but I didn’t expect it to be so uptight. Close to Silves and Lagos. It is conveniently located to explore other areas.

Short golfing break

We had 3 nights at Penina after a week in Vilamoura. We arrived at 1.30pm and were able to check in and use the facilities straightaway. We had a mountain facing room which was fine for a short stay. The buffet restaurant was disappointing - the Mexican food was very bland. The Italian restaurant wasn’t much better, the scallops hadn’t been seared, neither had the skin on the sea bass. The Grill restaurant was much better, with excellent service and significantly better food. The food at the Henry Cotton restaurant was good but overpriced for what was provided. Disappointingly the beach club was not open - on the website says open April to October, but clearly this is variable! The golf service is very efficient. We only played the resort course, but had no problems playing when we wanted. Although check out is by midday, we were able to play golf and use the facilities in the locker room afterwards, so we didn’t leave until 4.30 pm. Generally a comfortable hotel although a little dated. It was quite windy whilst we were there, so an indoor pool would be nice.

Wonderful hotel

Wonderful hotel with so much character reminding of days gone. Excellent service through out the resort. Christmas dinner at the Grill was superb and reasonably priced too.

Great stay at Penins

An amazing and tranquil place to stay. Staff were lovely and always helpful, with a special mention to Christie who always went above and beyond. Breakfast was excellent rooms were clean with comfortable beds and nespresso machine. Always loungers available with comfortable cushions.

Penina Hotel is lovely and the staff are fabulous. It might be a little tired but as one guest said to me in the lift - she’s a grand old lady - maybe a little tired, but she gets the job done.

We had a wonderful stay at the majestic Hotel Penina over Christmas, New Year's Eve and the first days of the new year 2023. We were very satisfied and would especially like to highlight the excellent breakfast and the friendly courtesy of the staff. No wish remained unfulfilled. The coastal landscape of the Algarve and the beaches between Armação de Pêra, Portimao, Alvor and Lagos are picturesquely beautiful.

I’ve been to Penina for 20 plus years and love the place but it needs some serious money spent on the hotel and golf course. Each year it deteriorates a bit more this includes the staffs as well as the hotel and golf course. I will return but not play golf there until they get the course in better shape

Hôtel très agréable

Très bel hôtel, le personnel est très gentil et accueillant. La piscine est grande, avec serviette fournie et matelas de transat pour plus de confort! P’tit Dej avec un large choix et très très bon. La propreté … nickel ! Le seul point négatif est qu’il n’y ait aucune animation le soir donc obligé de sortir si on veut se divertir un peu, ce qui est bien dommage car il faut une voiture, l’hôtel est excentré ! Rien à pied. Mais nous y avons passé un agréable séjour.. Un grand merci à l’équipe !

Nous n'avons pas aimé le restaurant. La portion du poisson était très petite pour un prix important (turbot à 28€ pour à peine 50g de chair). Le service du restaurant était extrêmement long.
