"We are a family of 5 with 3 kids under 12. We visited in March and it was very quiet/serene. Portovella has a beautiful view of the Douro. Riverside walk is just several steps down a hill. Photos don’t do it justice because it is so breathtaking in person. The comfort suite was the perfect size with 2 bathroom ensuites and a powder room. View from the suite was incredible. Just plan ahead if you’re staying on a Sunday as many restaurants were closed but we found a gem in Cinfaes - Sabores e Memorias where husband and wife cook for you and welcome you in. The pool was not yet open unfortunately since it was March but would have been an incredible view. There’s also a kids playground set which helps for the little ones and a small little fish pond. The property has beautiful lemon and orange trees. A full and delicious warm breakfast was served directly to your door. A very peaceful stay! Highly recommend."

"First of all the view is as stunning as on the photos and Marcos is a fantastic host.The house is a good location overlooking the river between Porto (1h10mins) and the central wine region (1h45mins). Hiring a car from the airport and driving around Porto and region was all very easy and the autoroutes are amongst the best in the world.Unfortunately, we were very unlucky with rubbish weather at the end of October so the unheated pool wasn't used, which was a shame.We did have a bit of confusion around the bed arrangements and Marcos has been made aware of listing issues. If not updated there are 3 bedrooms, all of which had a double bed and single futon and one also had a bunk bed (so suitable for a family of 5). There is also a sofa bed in the lounge.Its a stunning house and location. I actually think Marcos could charge a lot more money with a few relatively small improvements. 1) Upgrade and standardise bed sheets and kitchenware so its bit less of a mish mash and a bit more luxury, 2) Replace the TV with a smart TV for access to netflix etc..., especially as the wifi is excellent 3) Provide a few more cooking and cleaning essentials and maybe a bottle of local wine on arrival. We bought and left a lot behind but i think that the previous guests possibly cleared everything out.It was a wonderful stay, despite being very unlucky with the weather and hopefully these bits are helpfull to adding more value to your property in the future. "João was a marvelous host who was always available. Met us when we arrived and showed us completely around the property. The property met all of our needs/wants. The view from the deck was spectacular!!! We hope we can stay here again and we highly recommend it to everyone!"

"The home was lovely, spacious, comfortable, well-appointed and tastefully decorated. The views were outstanding. It was difficult to find restaurants nearby, and as the crow flies one was less than 2km away, but took nearly 30 minutes to drive. Next time (if I'm fortunate enough to rent this villa again), I would buy meats and vegetables (and wine of course) for a lovely dinner at the villa at least one night. I thought I read that the beds were all king-size, but now I don't see that information on the site(s). There are four air-conditioned bedrooms: four are queen-size and one appears to be a double (full). That was the only item I rated 4 stars, but perhaps it was my assumption (?) Victor, the owner and host, was the best - friendly, informative, and helpful. "
