About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire cabin to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
Mountains & Meadows at Turkey Pen is the perfect destination to enjoy with your family and friends, especially if you are looking for a private retreat. This family homestead of 250 acres is a pristine property, surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest. The creeks, ponds, barns, & undisturbed private mountains offer a peaceful, private backdrop. Guests are welcome to bring their personal horses for horseback riding (separate fee, must book). The property borders miles of national forest trails.
Our cabin sits on a hilltop overlooking pastures with horses, waterwheel, fishing pond, and stream. While sitting in a rocking chair, or swinging on the porch swing, you will enjoy the panoramic mountain views. The quietness offers a relaxing and tranquil vacation.
Our secluded 250 acres of heavily wooded forest borders the Pisgah National Forest. 'Turkey Pen' trail-head is where Native Americans once gathered wild turkeys. We still unearth arrowheads today and wild turkey sightings are a regular occurrence.
As a participant in North Carolina's Stewardship Program, we are committed to preserving wildlife and enhancing the land. During your stay you will see many species of birds, wild turkey, deer, and other wildlife.
We offer private hiking trails that adjoin the National Forest. There are also Blue Ribbon trout streams that are accessible from these trails. They are a long hike to get to & are much easier to access by car. Bring your own horse if you want to. We offer a separate pasture with a stream to accommodate your horse. However, we do not provide shelter or stalls. Horse pasture available for a separate fee & by reservation.
While we do offer a private retreat, we are conveniently located to Brevard, Asheville, and Hendersonville, NC, that are just minutes away.
The owners live on the property along with a caretaker. They maintain the property and care for the animals. Interaction with them is limited but they are happy to answer any questions that's guests may have.
We are excited to announce we now have hvac on the 1st floor, heat & a/c. The heat does rise & leaving the upstairs doors open will help heat the bedrooms upstairs. There are window AC units in the rooms upstairs and space heaters. Fire wood for the fireplace & fire pit can be provided at an additional charge with notice.
We only accept 1 night bookings last minute, 7-10 nights out depending on the season.
We are unable to accommodate any type of snow plow to the roads or driveway. This means that if there is an inclement storm in our area that could effect your reservation, it could be altered or refunded. Safety is the top priority during winter reservation months. The ponds are available for catch & release fishing, not swimming. Extremely charming and cozy cabin. Very comfortable mattress, nice living room and nice size bedrooms. Cute space heaters that look like mini fireplaces. The forested and meadowed property is beautiful and well kept. Acres and acres to explore. Friendly horses in the pasture next to the cabin made the stay special. Super washer and dryer, new fridge and microwave. Great climate control AC/heat. Hosts are lovely people, very responsive and accommodating. A one of a kind experience. Highly recommended!
Amazing property and super responsive hosts. Incredible animals that were super friendly peace and quiet… beautiful stars… fantastic location, middle of the woods, but also close to cities and parks.
This place was amazing! Very clean, very comfortable, easy access to Brevard to go out to a very nice dinner and not far at all from the turkey pen trailhead with access to miles of trails. This family assures you a pleasant experience and is just a phone call away if you need anything.
We enjoyed our stay. We wanted to get away for a little while because we are so busy. We loved the fireplace and the hominess of the cabin. They natural surroundings made it peaceful.
Adorable cabin with any amenity you would need to relax & enjoy the meadow & mountain surroundings. We were looking for the exact combo & so happy to have found this place.. Came as a family of 3 + dog. We loved the views, horses and dogs with perfect little trails to take the dog out for a walk before leaving the property to hike all around the Pisgah Forest area. Close to town to get anything you need, comfortable beds & furniture. We would love to stay here again if visiting the area.
We stayed here for a long relaxing weekend! This cabin was incredibly relaxing and peaceful. The property is beautiful and the owners were so fast to communicate and it was very clean. The gates were no problem at all. Can’t recommend enough :)
What an amazing cabin. Everything was just perfect. The cabin was rustic and the view was amazing. The kids loved playing with the horses and wondering through the woods. We will definitely be back next year.
The cabin was rustic but comfortable. The property was beautiful! The only issue was the frequency of the owners or maintenance staff (?) coming and going, including early in the morning. We’re early risers anyway, but it seemed like a lot of back and forth to some shed or building behind the cabin.
Wonderful views and an amazing property. We loved the access to visits the horses and how the property backs up to the Pisgah National Forest. It is an older but real cabin with added to the charm. We were mostly outdoors with excellent weather around the firepit.
Everyone was very friendly and a pleasure to speak with. We would visit again.
I came in late at night, so I wasn’t able to see the beautiful views surrounding the cabin till the next morning. We couldn’t believe the scenery right outside the door, as well as everything the property had to offer.
This is a fantastic rental, already saved in my “favorites” that I need to visit again in the future.
Peaceful, quant, and beautiful cabin in the country
Absolutely loved the cabin and the scenery! We loved just sitting on the back porch and looking out over the property. Honestly wished our stay was longer so we could venture out on the hiking trails that are on the property. Our kids enjoyed fishing at the pond and saying hello to the horses that roam the property. The cabin was so nice and charming. Just an overall great place to unwind and unplug. Would definitely come back!
Lovely rustic setting; welcoming hosts. Sense of remoteness in well-maintained nature conservancy, yet close enough to Brevard, Asheville and Hendersonville to be convenient. Clear, dark night skies and the sounds of nature surround you.
If you are looking for a peaceful country getaway, this is perfect. It has rustic charm, but with modern conveniences. It is great to have horses roaming free. The front porch is the perfect place to enjoy the view of lush green grass, horses and a pond, not to mention the white squirrels playing all over. This property is close to Brevard, so access to restaurants is super easy.
This is the 3rd time staying at this wonderfully remote cabin, surrounded by nature in every sense of the way. Early morning views of the horses in the meadows, wild turkeys passing through as the sun warmed the day, all enveloped by the lush Pisgah forest outide & warm fire inside. This is our new Christmas tradition. We're so grateful that owners have shared this special place with us!
This was exactly what we were looking for. Perfectly rustic but clean and neat. Wonderful private setting. Loved waking up to the Canadian geese, white squirrels and horses. The red horse we named “Lewis” was extra friendly. Communication with the owner was easy and the responses were prompt. Loved every moment of our getaway
Property was very clean, was well appointed. Will not stay again due to various people coming and going up the driveway to access a storage shed. Was there alone at the end and did not feel safe , not knowing
This was one of the nicest cabins I have stayed in. Very secluded. The cabin decorated so cute. Very comfortable beds. But the best part was the views. Lots of wildlife, deer, turkeys, we could her coyotes but never saw them. The horses on the property made the grand kids day. They were so friendly. They came right up for pets and we fed them apples.
I hope we can come back next year.
Our family stayed here for a week during the holidays, and it was just exactly what we were hoping for: a peaceful, relaxing getaway at a nice cabin in the mountains. The cabin had plenty of room for the four of us, and provided everything we needed to be comfortable. The surroundings are absolutely beautiful (even better than the photos), and it was so nice to wake up to that view each morning. The trail hikes were a great way to get out, get a little exercise, and soak up the scenery without having to leave the property. But the cabin is also conveniently located near Brevard, Hendersonville, and Asheville, as well as many great hiking opportunities in the area if you do want to venture off the property (which you may not want to!).The hosts were super responsive and helpful, and our stay was just perfect. We hope to return soon!
Easy access to Brevard, Asheville, and trails. We enjoyed our stay. The cabin had everything that we needed. The kitchen is well equipped. Although there are 3 bedrooms, the cabin is more suited for 2 couples, or 2 couples and children because of the layout of the upstairs. People in one bedroom have to go into the other bedroom in order to get to the bathroom. Also from the downstairs bedroom, one has to go through the kitchen and the living room to get to the bathroom. The owner was helpful and responsive.
This house was the perfect stay for our family of 6. It’s cozy, has everything you could need to cook meals, clean and comfortable furniture, cute decorations and I love the family photos and the interesting books throughout. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch rocking chairs to drink our coffee in the morning, watching the sunrise, the horses and the white squirrels! The kids loved having so much land to explore, and the dog loved running free. (I particularly loved having the horseshoe pit in the backyard!) The nights were dark and quiet, we had fires in the fire pit and the indoor fireplace, the kids learned what a VCR and VHS tapes are (ha!), we played games and read books in the warm cabin during the cold February nights. The hiking trails right in the backyard made hikes SO convenient - we could just walk out of the cabin and be in the woods in 30 seconds. This trip exceeded our expectations and we are already making plans for when we can return!
Location was excellent. Nestled into the woods of the mountain, it was secluded and quiet. B
However, we were still 10 minutes from Brevard and able to quickly be in town.
The cabin itself is adorable. Was able to watch every sunrise from the front porch and it was like looking at a puzzle. It was perfect.
The beds are a little soft but overall we slept well. We did have to continually vacuum ladybugs before bed that would get into the cabin but nothing dangerous or too crazy. The toddler enjoyed catching them inside.
The host was kind and answered all of our questions. Also quick to respond and we were never left hanging.
The listing says there is a catch-and-release pond, but the only pond on the property had a sign designating it as a water fowl habit and no fishing was allowed. If we were staying longer, we would've asked for clarification, but didn't impact our trip this time.
Overall, this was a great find and we would love to stay again the next time we're in Brevard. Hopefully for longer next time!
