The nearest beach in Plomin Luka is 12 kilometres away. The Istrian peninsula Terra Magica is located on the Adriatic Sea, the closest warm sea in the heart of Europe. Rabac, the pearl of the Kvarner Bay, belongs to the eastern part of the peninsula. In the western part, the fantastic medieval castle of Pazin (Kastel) lies 130 metres above the cliff where the Pazinica River flows into the Pazin Pit: This is the setting for the novel Mathias Sandorf by the famous French writer Jules Verne, which was published in 1885. Nowadays there is a Jules Verne Club in Pazin, and Jules Verne Days are organised every year at the end of June.
