it was a lovely comfortable welcoming small hotel and the food was excellent. It was very convenient not to have to go looking for somewhere to eat every night and the food and the restaurant was excellent and the catering staff were magnificent could not be more helpful. I will be back.

Great home hotel!

We had a fantastic stay here. The front facing large room with a balcony was a real great experience for us. The location is very convenient with the tram station for #13 right at the corner. Breakfast and dinner provided by the hotel were all excellent. They are cautious about gluten intolerance, so I had no difficulty eating their meals. Strongly recommend!!!

The room was crowded by the double bed and a bit unique being right off the stairwell, but I liked the high ceilings and the bathroom was a decent size. Having both breakfast and dinner included was a nice perk, and there were good selections available on the buffets for each. The hotel is in an older building in a neighborhood setting which is nice, and it's within walking distance of the Vigeland Park. While I was there, though, the street in front of the hotel was all torn up with some kind of road construction, and it was difficult for my taxi to get to the front door. The staff was very helpful and it was a pleasant stay.

Excellent hotel near the centre of Oslo. It’s in a quiet area but is walking distance to the centre and has public transport links via the nearby tram stop. The hotel itself is quiet and cozy with great amenities. Both breakfast and dinner were great with a good selection - dinner was more than a ‘light meal’ so ate there every night!

Oslo is a very beautiful, walkable city. The hotel is not far from the waterfront, the Royal Palace, Vigeland Gardens or most museums. I liked that there was always hot coffee and tea, especially very early in the morning.

Very nice looking hotel that is super close to a tram stop. There are restaurants and a couple convenience stores at the end of the block. The hotel feeds us a lot. A very nice breakfast buffet plus a sweet treat in the afternoon and a pretty nice dinner are free every day. Coffee, hot chocolate and tea were available 24/7. Rooms are nice. Small but normal for Europe. Everything worked and there was little to no noise at all from outside. They have fans available too. I sleep best to fan noise and they can provide one.

Beautiful mansion!

Hotel Gabelshus is a gorgeous property and unlike anywhere we have ever stayed. We felt like we were in a manor home from the 16th century. There is a library, a dining hall, and other nooks and crannies where you could curl up on a sofa or set of chairs and enjoy tea and read a book. The interior of our room looked as if it were in a home decorating magazine. The wallpaper matched the pillows and the carpet. There was a small lounge area in the room where you could sit and socialize or just relax. The price included breakfast, a coffee/sweet hour and dinner. The food and choices were good with several beverages offered, however, more than once the food wasn't hot. Especially at breakfast, twice I ate very cold Scrambled Eggs and Baked Beans. I know you make a big pot and it is hot when you bring it out to the serving line, but please put down a heat source so the food stays hot while it it out on the line to serve. Location is good for public transportation with quick access to the tram. Very, very small elevator so if you are elderly and use a walker, this might be difficult. Also, the toilet was in a very, very small corner of our bathroom so tricky to use. Again, a handicapped person could not have used our bathroom toilet, so tell the staff ahead of time if you need special accommodations. We would recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again if we return to Oslo. Thank you to all at the Gabelshus!

Very nice property and kind and helpful staff. However the wooden floor thresholds from one room to another ( dining area to reception) are slightly raised but no fluorescent tape or warning to watch your step. My friend took a hard fall when her sandal caught it. One cannot really see these and they are a tripping hazard. No safety bars or grab bars in bathroom for getting in and out of tub. Otherwise a very nice property.

Pleasant stay. Disappointing vegetarian options.

This is a nice hotel, beautifully decorated with friendly, hardworking staff. The rooms were clean and comfortable and service was excellent. We had booked two superior rooms as travelling with our children. Unfortunately during our stay there was construction work in the road taking place diectly outside our windows so we were woken very early both days by bucket diggers and gravel being poured, so not as restful as we had hoped. However it looked short term so if you are not travelling in the near future this shouldn't be a problem. The ritual toiletries in the bathroom were lovely. The hotel is a little way from the centre but only a short walk to this nearest tram stop and a pleasant 15min walk to Aker Brygger in the evening. Our biggest disappointment was vegetarians are not well catered for. On arrival we were told that dinner choices for the evening were chicken or meatballs. I asked about the vegetarian food and was told there was salad. So I had salad leaves and cold pasta with pesto and bread. The second night was meat chilli but chicken had been mixed in with the pasta salad so we couldn't even eat that so we ended up eating out in Akker Brygger which was expensive. We were disappointed with this as there was a sign in the dining room suggesting all diets would be accommodated and we had made it known we were vegetarian. Other than that, this is an attractive hotel, with nice staff just not for us due to the food options and perhaps the distance out of town.

Unfortunately one of the worst hotel experiences!

Unfortunately one of the worst hotel experiences we had. We had two rooms booked, and we both said already after the first day/night that this was probably the worst hotel night ever. One room had a strong smell of paint, and the other had a faint smell of mold. It was like they had painted/renovated to hide the smell. The beds were extremely soft, almost like a water bed, and very small. Both rooms were supposed to have double beds, but these double beds were extremely small, wouldn't even call them queen-size beds. As soon as you even moved in bed, you woke up your partner. The hotel is extremely responsive. Both nights we heard neighbors in the hotel SNORING, through the walls (!!!) It was among the sickest things we've experienced. The hotel is being renovated, so it was incredibly lively from the construction workers. The bathroom and walls were demolished, so there was construction dust and cardboard on all the floors. And very loud. Even during the weekend, it was renovated, and we filmed and photographed a lot for the sake of evidence. I would warn anyone even thinking of staying at this hotel, don't be fooled by a "cheap" price per night, we all regret so much that we did. And we will take this on to the Swedish Consumer Agency!
